So, the track was a good thought, but it's way too small and way way too narrow....
It was all I could do to keep this beast on the track....
It has grass stuck all through it too.... Yeehaw
Also, I must have had the engine in slightly crooked.
Totally sheared the teeth off the clutch bell in a tank and a half.
Spur gear teeth look good though!
I'll have to put on a 16T for now and call it good.
Waiting for the engine to cool enough to change the clutch bell

Also possible that your gear mesh was incorrect. What process do you currently use?

That should be fine. The other possibility for this failure could simply have been your driving style. An easy way to strip gears is to land a jump while giving it throttle. Anything with a hard impact to the drive train can do it.

Thanks X!
I put it back together and took it out for a run up and down the side of the road.
I need to take my transmission back apart to adjust the 2nd gear clutch so it shifts much earlier than it does now.
But I did manage to adjust the 3rd gear clutch so it actually shifts into third!
That clutch can be adjusted to shift a little sooner as well, but overall, it worked fine!
I'll guess it was getting close to 40mph in third!
According to my Venom Micro temp monitor, it was running between 228deg. and 243deg., which is perfect as far as I can see!
It was making some really SICK power today!!
I'm super happy with Dumpy!!
He's BAD ASS!!!

Glad it's running well for ya! Cross your fingers for no issues for a while (never gonna happen, bashing = carnage.....lol).

So, I took Dumpy to my friend's house and tried to give it a good run.
I can't believe the power this Mach 28 makes!! This is an awesome mill!!
I got a tank and a half through it when I flipped it(probably 7 or 8 times and landed on it's wheels) at around 35mph and lost the dog bone to the right rear..... Gone, nowhere to be found.
Ridiculous front wheel drive action for a second😛
Good thing I have a couple spares!

spares are good things to have around 🙂 Glad it is runnin well for ya bud.......

As anyone who's been around in RCs knows full well, if you don't have literally another full vehicle in spare parts you'll regret it....lol

Yep, because the one part you DON'T have a spare one of, is the part that will break..... Every time....😛
Or...... you'll break something on a Sunday, when no hobby shops are open(around here, anyway....)....

So, I took the transmission apart again in order to check out adjusting the other clutch.
Turns out I had to take the whole gear set off the shaft to be able to get to the adjustment.....
There is no way to adjust this clutch through the transmission housing...😡
I gave that clutch a little more than a quarter turn out, and gave the other clutch the same adjustment.
I hope to get some run time in today to see how it shifts.

I also put on my anodized(kind of brown/grey colored) HPI pipe to give that a try.
Kind of curious if it will make a difference or not.

I also added purple springs to the shock on each corner that was without a spring.
I fooled around with swapping spring spacers until the front was much softer than the rear.
I'm hoping that the stiff rear will help prevent squatting under throttle(I had some massive squatting before), which keeps the weight transfer to the rears down, helping combat wheelstands and understeer under WOT.

No pics due to a junk phone camera, but I did just send my GoPro back for a replacement under warranty, so I'll have decent pics then!

Will update if I get run time today(damn "Honey-do" list...😛 )!

Oh, hey..... I have one of the Venom Micro temperature probes that wraps around the head.
The bottom rib(closest to the block) is shallow, and is almost as far out from the cylinder as the outer edges of the cooling fins.
The next rib up goes in all the way to the glow plug access hole in the center, closer to the actual cylinder.

Which rib would be best for a more accurate temp reading?

Test drive revealed that the pipe makes a little more power except that it bogs at WOT off idle. Needs more tuning than I did tonight.
Springs made it too stiff, bouncy, and just plain tricky to handle. More experimenting with springs is on the agenda.
Transmission is still very late on the 1-2 upshift, and the 2-3 upshift could come a smidge sooner to boot.

Ran a tank through it and ran out of fuel as I was attempting to refill it.
Started and ran like crap after that....
Gave up in the waning daylight(and the mosquito attack after the nitro fumes had cleared) and decided this will become another day's project.

So, with the "extra" four springs making Dumpy ridiculously bouncy I decided to remove the four black springs and leave the four purple springs in place.
I'll try those and see what happens.
Can't possibly be worse than just the 4 black springs, which actually made it suck up all the bumps, rather than a violent change of direction on bumps.
More importantly, I put the carb back to factory specs and I will try tuning it to this pipe.
I kind of wish I hadn't screwed with it, and just left well enough alone with the plastic pipe on it......:wtf:
It started first try every time, idled perfectly, performed without a hitch, and made big power.
But whatever.... nothing I can do but start over and see how well I can tune it in this time.😛
Day off tomorrow, hopefully I can squeeze in some run time!!!
Will update if it happens!

So, today after work I tried to get Dumpy to run to my liking with that pipe on it.
One totally spanked "C" cell, and two tanks later.....
I said screw it!!!
I put the plastic pipe back on, reset the carb to specs, and tuned to perfection in about 2/3 of a tank.
Without running the tank completely dry at any one time, I refilled the tank 4 more times and it ran absolutely fine!
It's running a consistent 249deg, hot lap after hot lap and making brutal power!
The 4 purple springs are an improvement over the 4 black springs, and worlds better than all 8 springs.
Sadly, my 1-2 upshift timing has not improved, despite another 1/3 of a turn.
Looks like I'll have that damn tranny out again to adjust that bahstid in the next few days....
All in all, I had a blast and killed 1/2 gal of fuel as well as another dog bone.... Only one good spare left... LOL

Yeah, Joe. I had that thought too. 🙂
But what I really need to do is keep the damn thing on all four wheels! LMAO
There is one piece of ledge that sticks up in the middle of the fast section of the "track" that I always seem to hit and make Dumpy do cartwheels.... 😛
Dumpy came to a stop in almost the exact spot where he stopped when I broke the first dog bone, so I think I need to haul some dirt and cover that piece of ledge to eliminate the problem altogether.

My buddy had worse luck than I did.
His radio lost signal or something and his Eight went full throttle and ended up on it's roof WIDE OPEN!!!
I ran over and snuffed the exhaust with my finger so his engine didn't hand grenade.
I have a circle burnt on my fingertip from it, but he still has an engine that runs, so it's all good!
He tried to bind his radio, but had no success, so he sat and watched me run.
I offered him to drive it so he can get some wheel time, but he said he was fine watching me.

So, according to the package tracker link GoPro sent me, my replacement GoPro arrived at 5:46am today at the FedEx hub about an hour from me!!
I hope that means it will be delivered some time this afternoon!!!:woot:
I'll need to learn how to use it again, and then the bashing vids will commence!!!
Stay tuned...
This could get interesting!
