This is the Savage 25 that I rescued from a dumpster last week.
When I fished it out of the dumpster it was a complete Savage(had a trashed front diff and pinion) that had a Dynamite Mach 28, the stock plastic pipe, a tuned pipe, 2 sets of wheels & tires, roto start, 2 NiMH packs for the receiver/servos, 2 NiMH packs for the roto start, '70 Hemi Cuda Body, glow plug igniter, fuel bottles, HPI(Futaba) pistol grip controller, an almost full gallon of fuel, a few bags of new parts(including the front diff it needed), some aluminum parts, 2 chargers, one for each pair of batteries.
All I had to get was 8 AAs for the transmitter, a couple of C batteries for the glow plug igniter, and a $13 pinion gear!!

For now, I decided to call it Dumpy, considering where I found it. LOL
I had to clean it a LOT, fix the diff & pinion, and tune it a little but it's running strong.
My friend swears that he hears it shift gears, but I don't.
I haven't taken the tranny apart yet, but I suspect it is only a single speed.
I'm content even if it is a 1 speed.
It is what it is.
....And it's pretty quick!!
Here's a quick vid I took while driving it at the same time.
It's with the Hemi Cuda body on it:

I borrowed the Saleen Mustang body I had on my HPI RS4 Rally and made it fit Dumpy.
It looks okay, I guess.... LOL

I'm totally addicted to nitro power!!!
It only took me 31 years in the R/C hobby to finally step up to nitro, but I'm here to stay!! LOL
:hpisf:

Love the odd fitting mustang body, but I'm more of a shelby kind of guy. 🙂

Keep this thread updated as you go!

Thanks!
I have the original Subaru Impreza body from the RS4 Rally I could use on Dumpy as well, but I haven't done that yet.
That one has a cool paint job. I'll post up some pics tomorrow if I can get it in direct sunlight(the only way my cell phone takes decent pics).
I have the smooth HPI tuned pipe(it's grey IIRC) that I'm going to try out after I figure out what's up with my clutch bell.
To be honest, I like the way the plastic pipe sounds, though it's quite possibly got more to do with the mill than the pipe. 😛
It's deeper, raspy, and has more of a bark to it, where my buddy's O.S. 3.0 powered Losi Eight sounds high pitched and has more of a buzzing sound than mine.

So, last night I decided to find out what was up with the sounds the drivetrain made on my last run.
The spacer between the screw & washer on the end of the crank and the clutch bearing, had disappeared.... ???
So the clutch bell was grinding against the main gear, which made the clutch slip and trashed them both.
I dug into the bunch of parts that came with it and found another 15t clutch bell to use.
There wasn't another 49t main gear in the mix, but I found a 52t gear and a 56t(IIRC) gear.
The 56t was missing the slipper clutch lining on the inside, so I used the 52t gear.
I probably should have used the 18t clutch bell with it, to help keep the front wheels on the ground, but we'll see what happens when I run it.
I had to improvise a clutch spacer between the clutch bell and the crank end screw, since there wasn't an actual spare spacer in the bunch of stuff I have.
I used a brass bushing I had from one of my old Tamiya electric cars that fit over the shaft and was of appropriate thickness to fill the void.
I have a feeling the brass bushing won't last long....
Again, I'll have to see what happens on my next run.

Still wondering what happened to the spacer that was originally in there.....
Oh, well.... Poop occurs!😛

So, I had thought all my nitro was gone from running it yesterday with my crawling friend, but to my surprise, he had left me one last tank full and didn't tell me.
Stripped two plastic wheel hexes on that last tank, but had a blast after I swapped over to my Dog Bonz on alloys!!

You are very observant!
That's how it was straight out of the dumpster.
I have a set of 8 red springs and a set of 8 purple springs, but only 7 black springs....
I haven't messed with any of them yet, since it rides really well with it's current setup.
Plus I'm not sure that I have any more spring cups for the other 4 shocks anyway....😉

So I had to mow the part of the lawn that we actually use, but I got to thinking, and decided to actually use a large part of the unused lawn.
I mowed out a track in the tall grass and mowed it shorter and shorter with each pass until I was almost out of gas.
I'll pick up more gas and continue to mow it even shorter in order to get to the clay beneath.
I'll post more pics as progress goes(slowly).

now for building some jumps and get some buddies together for a bash. Looks like a sweet place to play at......

Thanks!!
The grass is still about 3" tall in the pics.
I'm going to scalp it in the next few days and let the sun burn the grass(hopefully).
Trip to the LHS on Saturday for fuel, and some trial bashing on Sunday!
I need to come up with some sort of driver's stand in order to see the whole track clearly.

Thanks X!!
It's just the beginning stage. I may change it up a bit. Then again, I may not.😛

Anyway, Yesterday I ordered an input shaft for Dumpy's transmission.
I should see that by Tuesday.
Yesterday, my friend gave me 1/2 gallon of Blue Thunder 20% nitro because he's switching to 30% nitro.
Today I hit the LHS on my way back from visiting my brother & his family.
They didn't have a 17T clutch bell, so I'll wait for next trip for that, but I grabbed a spare 47T and 49T spur gear along with a fresh gallon of Blue Thunder 20%.
So when my input shaft comes in I will be terrorizing the mowed track!
I'll let you know if I like it or not. LOL

So, the new transmission input shaft came today!:woot:

I should have taken pics with the trans apart(but my phone's camera "produces a large vacuum"), but the gear that goes on the inside of the trans has 3 cogs in one, and there are 3 corresponding gears attached to a one-way clutched gear.

At the risk of sounding like the total nitro newb I am, I would take that to mean this is a 3 speed transmission?
I have heard a 1-2 upshift, but I have most definitely NOT heard a 2-3 upshift.

If that's the case I'll also guess that the P.O.'s gear ratio(15/49) was too low to provide sufficient RPM to induce the 2-3 upshift?
When I tried a14/52 ratio it would barely make the 1-2 upshift, so that's where my thinking comes from.
That said, I'm guessing a 18/48 ratio will provide me the RPMs required for a 2-3 upshift?
Guess I'll have to research that some more...

So, anyhoo....
Dumpy is back together and ready to rip the place up and I have 1.5 gallons of fuel!!!
Though I'll need to mow the track again before I can start doing laps.... It's grown 3-4 inches in the few days since I mowed it...😱
I have Wednesday off.......:woot:😀

No, there are two adjustments. If you look on page 8 of that manual I linked you will see the two adjustment screws on the clutch holder.

There are 2 in the 3 speed trans, it should be right behind the 1st shift point adjuster......

It's not a well laid out manual. There are two clutch holders, one for going into 2nd and one for going into 3rd. I forgot that they don't show the other clutch holder on page 8, sorry.
Part# 87216 is for 2nd
Part# 87217 is for 3rd

When you take off that rubber cover on the side of the transmission housing there will be two holes. The right hole is for 3rd.

When performing the adjustment make sure to use the bottom hole on the clutch holder. The top hole is a retention screw.

To adjust 2nd gear you unfortunately need to take apart the transmission, removing that set of gears to expose the clutch holder. This is made alot easier if you have the "X" style transmission case.

Okay, that explains a lot!
I was beginning to think maybe I was dumb.... LOL
Thanks once again X, you are the man!!
I don't have the "X" style transmission case, but that might just be the first "upgrade" I do!
