Afternoon all,
I think i have found out why you are not supposed to drive through standing water!(but i did anyway!).Last time i went out,it was very wet(should have stayed in!)but i carried on regardless until the car ran out of fuel.Have come to start it again but it doesnt work!.I'm thinking i have fried the electrics, when i switch the truck on it doesnt make the 'turn on' sound that it normally makes & none of the controls work.
Any suggestions as to what to replace it with?
TY in advance

I am assuming the batteries are good in both the TX and for the RX. I would start with the receiver and go on from there.

most times if you dry it out it will come back to life, the servos seem to be
more sensitive to water for some reason, if the servos still don't work try hooking up a different servo for testing .

good luck bud

Ty for the suggestions,i will give them a go.
Failing them not working, anyone know roughly how much a new setup is ?
Is there anything i should be looking for?
Again ,ty in advance 🙂

What kind of radio are you running? Stock receiver off ebay is not very much. If it is servos there are a ton of options. IS a HITEC 645 servo for the steering will be about 30 dollars, and well worth the money. Stock servos are cheaper but not as good. Do what crash said first though, dry them out real good. Another thing I though of, if you can, swap out the crystal, jsut another thing to check.

I can't tell you how many servo's I've killed by water, not to mention the insane amount of receivers.

Take the receiver, hit it with a hair dryer for about 10 minutes. Plug the batteries into it, and a servo. See if it all works then. If still nothing, try a different servo. Still nothing? Pull the crystal out, make sure the contacts are dry. Now, try it again. If still, nothing? It's probably time for a new receiver.

Futaba sells some decent stock AM replacement receivers. They seem to work pretty well for me. If you're running FM, then it's time to look elsewhere.

This is my current setup, cost me 58 bucks total.

Futaba AM Receiver, Hitech 645MG steering Servo, Futaba S3003b (bearing) throttle servo, stock HPI Radio. I just replaced the HPI receiver just to see if there was much of a difference. It was a pretty good change too. 🙂

For a whole new receiver/servo combination, you can spend as little as 30 bucks, or as much as 300 bucks. It all depends on what you get. If you're running the stock radio gear, it's a GOOD idea to grab a HiTech 645mg steering servo and run it with a 6v NiMH Hump Pack. Those Hump Packs make such a nice change. No AA's and the servo's just push so much more power!

Just a quick tip for you...

Take some shock O-Rings and put them around the servo shafts, then use some grease and just dab a little on the rings and put the servo horns on after. It seems to make a pretty good difference on water problems.

Also, put your receiver into a balloon. Yes, a balloon. Zip tie it shut after running the wires, then put some silicon on the very end where the wires are coming out of the balloon. I've used that idea for years, never had another receiver die on me from water. 🙂

I guess I just have good luck because the inside of my radio box just doesnt get that wet. I seal my servos and run with it. As long as its not raining because I don't like getting my radio wet. But snow, puddles, mud...... I bash it all!

Thanks for the advice guys, there is still life in the beast after all!.Stripped it all down, left it to dry, retried it,hey presto,it all works again.ty for the suggestions 🙂
