I broke a few dogbones and ran out of my back-ups. I bought some Savage XL dogbones on ebay but they don't fit the drivecups on my X. They are 123x11 and stock is 123x9. I should have realized this before purchasing them, but I thought they'd be great.

Anyways, should I stick to stock dogbones or go with the heavy duty HPI dogbones. I'm running an LRP z28. The stock dogbones held up for about a gallon and a half before finally snapping. I've heard to stick with stock because they flex and heavy duty just snap.

Any suggestions?

btw-I've listed the savage XL dogbones back on ebay.

Ive run the Hd's for a long time and like them! I just ebayed two sets of the XL's bones. Their beefe!!!!!! But like you said cup and axal upgrades too,.... I got a full set of the 6 for 20 and another set of the 4 outer bones for 18. I will be running them soon and I will post back.

Will the XL drivecups work on the X? If so, maybe cheaper than buying 4 more bones.
I don't know if they will work because they are extended. There is a set up for auction on ebay but it has like 5 days left and no bids yet.

So if I go with the HD driveshafts, how will they do with the stock drive cups....that is my other concern I forgot to mention.

Zud.. I did some research, and I think the XL cups will fit...
http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/86065/ these are 8x9x44mm

They will fit. bottom of the page says they will fit the X. I am sure you also know you will need to change the diff cups also. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for checking that out Allan. I think I will just stick with the X size dogbones. If upgrading to XL dogbones, you also have to upgrade to the XL drive cups. The total cost would be way more than I am willing to pay. I'm trying to get off cheap.

Thanks Jester, I'll check out the link you posted. I was about sold on the HD driveshafts. I'm still curious as to if the HD driveshafts will work ok with the stock drive cups.

i haven't really had all too many problems with the hpi hd dbs, i bent one after about a gallon with a locked diff though, but thats pretty harsh on the bones...a regular one would have snapped a few times in that amount of run time

I have read through all these posts, not one of you use CVDs? Give them a try? I used GPM CVDs for over a year now, Not one problem. (But they were pricey) I'm going to put the BEST (best is the company name) CVDs through some heavy testing before I talk great about them. But only for $45 or so, I got all the dog bones replace with CVDs, all 6. You can find them off ebay.

I should have my savage running in a few days. I will let you all know if they are any good.

I have to go with like what Jester said. I haven't heard anything good about the HD dogbones till now. I haven't ever run them, but from what I read the HD ones don't flex at all and just snap, well the stock dogbones flex and twist, eventually they just twist to much and break. But if you are wanting to upgrade your dog bones go with the FLM ones. I used to break dogbones a lot, then I went with FLM ones and haven't broke one sense.

I've had my truck through about 8 gallons and have broken only 5 stock dogbones. I think for the price, I will just go with stock. Maybe next time I will upgrade to flm when the pricetag is not an issue. Thanks for the input everyone.
