Does this battery pack fit the stock Savage receiver box?

Yes it will fit. I have a similar pack. I had to cut the inside tabs off the top cover though so it would clear the pack.

Ok thanks for the info Keithv!

I have a few other questions, if you or someone else can enlighten me:

1- What about the discharge rate? From what I've understood from Wikipedia, lower is better right? That would be the rate at which it discharges while it's sitting on the shelf and NOT when it's actually used, am I right? (see the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_self-discharge_NiMH_battery)

Here are the specs of this pack (taken from the link in my first post):
#2605H 6v 2600mah NiMH 5 cell AA Hump Pack
Cell: 2600mah AA
Discharge rate: 4amps << That would be good?
Wire: 22ga Rx, 14/16ga on larger connectors
Size; L 1.67" x W 1.97" x H 1.02".
Weight; 5oz.
Connector selection available in checkout

2- Will I be OK with this charger for this battery pack?

Hmm, I'm not sure about the discharge rate. Mine holds a charge very well and it lasts for several runs before I need to recharge it. The amount of run time you will get from a battery pack is going to vary. I recharge mine at the end of the day if Ive been running a lot or if I only run a tank or two Ill wait till I run a few times.
I have a Dynamite Prohpate II LCD and it works good. I would say any of the Dynamite chargers would be a good choice.

Thanks for the info again!

I have heard very good things about Dynamite chargers. I'll buy the Vision Peak II, and the battery pack from my first post at onlybatterypacks.com.

I'll let you know how it fits and will post some photos if possible.

I'm still interested in knowing what is the discharge rate though...

Ok, I bought this pack from OnlyBatteryPacks.com:
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=10426.7

I was wondering what amp setting to use on the Dynamite Vision Peak 2 (didn't buy it yet!) for charging the pack and after searching through the docs on both Dynamite's website and OnlyPatteryPacks.com, I sent an e-mail to OnlyBatteryPacks to ask. Here's what they answered:

"None of those [between 1, 2 and 4 amps] - AA's need to be charged at no more than 500ma (1/2 amp). The charging instructions list the amp setting for AA 2600's in the chart:

Battery charging instructions
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/up/pdf/batterycharginginstructions/NiMH INSTRUCTIONS.pdf

The vision peak charger should be used on larger cells."

Shame on me for not checking this before purchasing the battery. So what I want to know is:

1- Do I need to get a charger which supports lower power output such as the more expensive Vision Peak Ultra, or will the Vision Peak 2 be OK?

2- Is the Vision Peak Ultra a good charger? I have seen some bad comment about some chargers (from Dynamite?) which feature an LCD display.

3- What chargers would you people recommend keeping in mind that I will need to charge "standard" receiver hump packs, the 5-cell AA pack I bought which needs to be charged at 500 milliamps, and ideally some Li-Po battery packs?

The batteries don't need to be charged at 500ma, but the lower the charge rate the better the overall charge. Charging generates heat. A lower charge rate generates less heat. Less heat during charging increases the battery's life span.
The vision peak should be adjustable to 500ma. If not get the prophet II or the MRC 977 Pro which can charge or discharge 2 packs at a time.

I would like to see how you got that pack to fit in the stock location. I have that pack myself and it has always been on the shock tower because it didn't look like it would fit.
Got any pics?

Hum.. Keithv said the pack would fit with minor trimming of the lid, I don't have it yet so I can't tell you. If the lid is trimmed a bit it fits right? I really don't want to store my battery outside the receiver box...

Do you place the separate cell on your battery pack in the same disposition as the hump pack I bought for it to fit, or do you have to squeeze it somewhere else?

I'd really like to know if I've got the right battery pack.
Normally you put the extra cell where the reverse servo should go. So you cant use reverse with that pack. Unless you can get the extra cell to fit under the lid somehow.
I know the pack you got will work. I'm just not convinced it fits in the stock location.

On the underside of the lid there are two tabs. If you snip them out the battery pack fits fine. I take a picture tomorrow.

I cut the tabs out that were where the tip of the screw driver is. After that the back fit in fine. I put the larger side of the pack down as you can see in the one picture. Hope this helps

Its snug not really tight. It doesnt flop around which is nice. Its a 2600mah pack. I'm not really sure how long it will last, but its never gone dead on me even with a full day of driving. I just recharge it anyway at the end of the day to be safe.

Well you have inspired me to open up my radio box again and try to fit that sucker in there. I have never had it come off the tower or the wires get messed up but it looks a lot cleaner with the battery in the box.
Thanks for the pics Keithv!
I too can get an entire day of bashing out of my OBP.com 6v 2600mah pack and mine is 2 years old at that. They are great little packs and I recommend them to anyone looking for a good RX hump pack.

Just pop those two tabs off the top of the case and you'll be good to go. I received a lot of help from this site. I'm glad I was finally able to offer some back.

The *firebird* style fits much better. This pack here has MUCH higher quality cells in it. Not knocking your stuff...just showing you what's available out there.

Huh. That stinks... the one I bought is a hump pack, not a firebird configuration.

I guess I'm going to have to strap this on the shock tower... :duh: can anyone that has a hump pack like I bought tell me if it fits somehow?

Chris, you make those battery packs, right? How much does the one you posted cost? I may not buy now, but maybe I will if I get tired of the other pack.

Damn.. should have waited before buying. :duh:

Yes sir I am a vendor here on HPISF.com hehe. I'll PM you about the pricing.

Good, thanks for the fast answers. I'll get some pics on this thread as soon as I get a chance to install the pack in my savage.

Update: here are the pics!
Conclusion: the hump AA config fits perfect with the Futaba receiver which is quite small, but I'm not sure about the RTR Savage's receiver. With the foam pads and velcro, the pack fits tight and won't jiggle around, which is very nice.
