Pretty much the only upgrade I haven't done ... Is it really worth it , I really only run w/ another buddy or myself , I know spectrum don't use crystals and such.. But other then that what are the benefits ???? Please school me on this subject

I run a mx3 am in my savage and it works great. Very cheap upgrade and get a ton of adjustments. I also have a dx3 in hellfire and it is awesome. The response is unbelievable. It is nice when at my track or somewhere else running with people and not worrying about crystals, just start it up and go. I had a bad experience with people messing with me while racing at a track. If you can get by with the stocker than so be it.

I had a Futaba 2PL laying around from when I raced my 18R so I threw it in the savy and like it better than the stock radio for the EPA adjustments and the 10 model memory. Not to mention it is a pretty cheap radio. I haven't ever really liked stock radios of any type because you can't fine tune anything.

I own a brand new Spekky 3.0 and 3 stock HPI TX and RX setups...but so far I've only run the stock stuff...

you don't have a poll option for "both stock and upgraded" 😉

My stock radio died. Tried different receivers, different crystals new batteries different location but range was all of about 10m. I went the DX3.0 just for the 2 receivers and price.

I've run many stock systems, Futaba 3PJ, JR XS3, Nomadio....stock works fine for most things and since most vehicles come with a low-end radio that's entirely functional, it's hard to pony up the dough for a nice system.

That said, the digital systems have a ton more control, some of which can be really nice, even on a basher. My favorite thing is the multiple models they can handle. Using one radio for several cars does simplify things a lot!

FM is better than AM as well. Much less glitchy and usually a better range. You can get a digital FM crystal-based system for under $100 or the same thing in AM for under $60. They're starting to get hard to find, though.

The 2.4GHz systems are awesome (very fast, no crystals or channels, feedback), but they are expensive.

I use the Futaba 3 PM.I paid less than 200 bucks for it and it comes with the reciever. It has a ton of adjs. and FASST tech so you don't have to worry about freq.I like to run my heli while a buddy drives my Savy, and have no issues at all.For the money, I don't think you can do better.

If anyone is looking at buying a Nomadio sensor or the react, make sure you get the V2 transeicer, the 1st version is too big for the radio box, V2 fits easy.

I too just use the stock one but as my fleet grows I think it would be better to upgrade so I can just use one. Now to just get my fleet to grow faster...

The reason I use 2 3pm's is becuase if my bro breaks something on his trucks then he can still use one of my other rc's becuase there not all on one remote. I have half on one remote and the rest on the other one.

Clinton and i both Run a JR3 Digitized fm ! i like the Jr it is the same radio as the Spektrum just that it is fm and I can change my channel if someone is on it !! I got a heck of a deal on the two radios and 5 recivers so all of our trucks and cars are on Jr Digital !! There are alot differences between stock and upgraded radios one of them is you End set point adjustments for like your throtle and your steering you can tighten it up or losen it up you can set it for more brake as you let off the throtle and so on !! Also with the Jr3 I don't have to have that lil extra part for reverse I use one of the extra channels on the radios !
I have also put some skins on our radios !!
I have ICEMAN on mine with the kit from UPGRADE and Clinton My sons radios has BAMBAM with a skins kit on it as well!!

:jamout: I use a Futaba 3PM and it is great. Its only 180 buks and you not only get epa's but an extra channel Anti lock brakes .This is what sold me.There are expo rates You can speed up or slow throotle response, another key feature, and the best feature is the menue is very easy to navigate. All this plus the reciever for under 200 bucks, you cant go wrong.

I ripped the Spektrum receiver right out of my RC18T to put in my Savage, so it was kind of a free upgrade to the DX3. I love this radio for many reasons.

I didn't notice anyone post one of the great reasons to own a Spektrum (or similar)...it lets you run really short antennas under the body!

Great point drivefast,we also forgot about the buit in fail safe. I ran my reciever pack too low ,and my truck just came to a stop and idled. At first it freeked me out because I forgot about the F.S.About 20 secs. later I was a very happy camper. Oh Yeah , the short ant. with no woories .I use a tube about 2 inches to keep it tight up to the roll cage.

yeah i have the stock hpi radio but i am looking to upgrade to a 2.4 ghz radio i'm just looking for one that is a good price, not too costly.

i still run the stock on one and fun a futaba 3PM FM on the other. I would just get anouther reciver but its half the cost of anouther controller. LOL

Futaba

The extra reciever is a little, but I have seen guys swap recievers between cars ,and you can still store the different setups. Its a bit of a hassle but if you don't have the c note you still have options.Like I said ITS ONLY 180 AND IT IS A GOOD STARTER UPGRADE THAT COULD CARRY YOU INTO RACEING. Sorry that was a bad time to hit the caos lock.I really wasn't shouting.lol Seriously though, its a great step up.
