Hi all,
This is my first post to this forum. I recently purchased the Savage X (4.6) and decided to seal the engine after about five tanks. I decided to seal the engine in an attempt to fix some tuning issues that I was having. Upon inspection of the internals of the engine, I noticed a hairline crack? running across the connecting rod. My question is:
1) Is this normal?
2) Is it a crack or simply just a machining defect from the factory
3) Will the HPI engine warranty help me in any way?

Any feedback would be great!!20150602_211245.webp 20150602_211245.webp 20150602_211252.webp 20150602_211343.webp

Welcome to the forum!

It's hard to tell. But I want to point something out. It looks like your "crack" goes from the con rod to the crank.

I have to assume that is simply something laying on it? Or a scratch.

Ahh ... that must be a Q-tip fiber that I using to clean and better see the scratch / crack. Do think HPI will warranty this engine or does it have to completely fail?

without a complete disassembly, cleaning and thorough inspection there is just no way to tell if that's a crack or just some foreign material stuck to the rod.....
From what I can see it is something on the rod, I seriously doubt it is a cracked rod.....
