Controller / servo help

Hi I am not very experienced with Nitro cars but I bought a used SAVAGE XL and everything seemed fine when the past owner was running it, when I brought it home I noticed that the controller was having some lag issues... after a couple of test I noticed that when the controller is off, the engine can run great with no trouble at all it is idling but when I turn my controller on it starts to trim itself and there is a noticeable lag when I hit the throttle or move the wheels, the wheels are moving with difficulty and when I press the throttle the engine stops. Is it an ESC problem or a controller problem? The esc is blinking red

sorry you got me here, is it nitro or electric, you state the runs fine with the radio system off then you state at the end that the esc is blinking red......
So what is it????? maybe a few pics of your rig may help with an accurate diagnosis.....

its a nitro engine and sorry I meant the receiver is blinking red

He calls it an ESC but he means the receiver.

If the engine stalls when you pull the throttle the tune is off..
Try and reset the trim on the throttle and then try again, my guess is that the trim is just a bit off..

It may be that the trim is not centered, brakes are applied.
