I know there are alot of members here that know quite a bit about computers (building and repairing) and I need a little help with mine. I've got a couple pics of the windows that pop up when the comp. is turned on. Here's the first one that pops up and it pops up everytime the comp. is turned on.

And this one pops up every now and then but not everytime the comp. is turned on. But, when this one pops up, it's like the comp. freezes and I have to turn it off by using the switch and then turn it back on again.

Also, I sometimes have sound and most of the time I don't have any sound (like 9 times out of 10). But, whenever I shut down the comp, it makes the sound that windows makes when it shuts down. And it got me really stump. Maybe a new sound card is needed? I have no idea. If there is anybody that can help me with this would be great. I just wanna try and fix it myself (if it's not to complicated) before I take it in to get fixed, whenever I get the money.

Check the device manager and see if there are any errors listed.
When did you start getting the error messages? Did you install any new software or hardware just prior to the errors showing up?

I hate Putors! Good luck with yours dude ! I would think that there are so many nice people here that you will get help! And sorry but I had to laugh a little at taking a pic of putor then posting it on a putor....sorry!

Yeah, it is funny. But, alot easier than trying to type out the what the whole thing says.

I think I did check the device manager, can't remember. Incase I didn't, where is it located so I can look into it after work today. I don't remember installing any new software or hardware. The only thing I can think of would be the external hard drive I got and when I updated Itunes. But that was a couple months before the error messages started. They didn't start until the comp. got left on accidently over night.

This looks like that old MS update problem. Did you recently run any updates? Or do they run automatically?

MS has fixed it. But it's several steps to fix.

From what I remember you need to stop the WUA and BITS.

Assuming you have admin rights on that computer,
go to <start> <run> and type services.msc
Right click on Automatic Updates and and then <properties>.

Click <Stop> to stop service.

Do the same thing with Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

Now open my computer and find your "windows" directory. Then find the 'SoftwareDistribution' and rename it to 'SoftwareDistribution-old'

Open IE and go to Windows updates (Tools, Windows Updates)

I don't remember the update, but you are needing the newer version of WSUS 3.0

I recommend getting all updates.

(If the windows update tells you that you need the WAU service running to update, go back to the services and start them back up. Just make sure to get the updates before this circle starts again. This error occurs when the services tries to find new updates after a restart.

(You can alway turn off Automatic Updates to solve this, but that is not recommended. Just change the services startup to manual or disabled)

Good luck, that problem was a real ***** when 100's of PC's did this all at the same time.

Try whipnet's suggestion and get back to us.
You can access device manager by going to control panel then system, you will see the tab for device manager.
Also did you try a system restore at all when the problem first started?

This is the OS that is on the comp, Windows XP Home Edition Ver. 2002 Service pack 2. Does that problem pertain to this system or another? Also, I don't remember if my wife registered the comp. when she got it or not. And she doesn't remember either. And I have never done any updates on it and she hasn't done any either. I'll check everything today when I get home from work and then let you guys know.

No didn't work. But was able to get some windows updates. But the error message still pops up. Oh well, guess I'm just gonna have to go get it fixed.

Darn... Did you get all critical and the other updates? I can't remember if this was a critical update. Do you have the problem with the automatic update service stopped? (you can set it to manual for startup and reboot and see) I could have sworn that was your issue, but a bad memory stick can cause things like this too.

Computers are my business (more on the server and network infrastructure side) and I HATE THEM. I actually got into RC to get away from computers when I got home during the day. (My work day ends at 1:00pm unless I decide to end it early.)

If you have a problem with a Savage, there is a reason for it. Not true with computers.
