1st off, great site!! Had my savage (1st rc!!) for 4 months now and this site has helped me out many many times, but I cant find an answer to the following.

A buddy and me got our savages at the same time (arrhh I hear you all say), and he ran out and got the 3 speed tranny, I didn't bother as I wanted to get my money's worth out of the one I got, but he has a noticable gear change from 2nd to 3rd, but neither of us hear a 1st to 2nd change.

I read a dirty little rumour that out of the box (yes I got the RTR and wish I hadn't as working on them is so much fun) the go straight into 2nd as its the break in, but I have gone through 2 full turns on the 2 speed set up making the shift later and no change!! Am I missing something, or being a tool?

Appreciate any help but be gentle, newbie!! Oh yeah, it's the 3.5.

Cheers

Seeing as how you just got it, have you went through a thorough break-in? If the engine is not fully broken in and tuned well it may not have the power to hit the RPMs needed to hit 2nd gear.

Hi X,

Cheers, for the quick reply. Yup, have put about a gallon through it, and have gone right through the tuning process a few times, from base right out to too lean and found what I would think is the best setting. Little smoke, doesn't chug and goes pretty quick.

Try something, tune the shift down to the point that when your driving it obviously isn't getting into 2nd. When you find that point start slowly moving it until you find 2nd again. Then atleast you'll be in the ballpark.

Good shout, I will keep moving it out until I get it, or need to start again.

Thanks for your help.

Looking at your pic makes me think it's time to clean the damn thing!! Lol

That was after a small rebuild, but it does most definitely get dirty. Good luck and keep us updated.
