I was buying fuel yesterday from a LHS that I don't normally buy fuel from. I was getting 20/12 Sidewinder. I have been happy with it, but have no other experience to compare with.

Anyway, they guy at that LHS said that 12% oil is too low for a big block engine (I have a Savage x 4.6 RTR with the F4.6 engine) and that I should change. I said that I thought you weren't supposed to change fuels to which he responded "it doesn't matter if there's more oil content."

So I talked to the guys at my normal LHS that I get the fuel from, and they said it's ok to change to a fuel with more nitro content.

So I guess my question is: Should/Could I change to a different nitro fuel? Should I be looking for 25/14 or something?

i think its one of those questions that get a different answer depending on who you ask.

Ran my F with hpi power fuel 20%, then switched to trinity 30%. haven't run it on byrons 30% which i presently run. all was good.

ran the picco on trinity 30% & switched to byrons 30% & its a night & day difference in temps & power (all good).

ive heard peeps say to stick with the same fuel, which i will do now that i run the byrons 30%, but ive not noticed any differences switching from 1 to another.

based on that, i think its ok to switch.

just need to run a different plug tho (with the higher nitro content)

the guy is bs when he says 12% is to low for a big block. 8% to 12% oil is the ideal numbers so yout safe there but when switching fuel i always richen both needels a 1/4 and do a a break in with the fuel then tune

8% oil is race stuff .. no need to run that in a basher but you can all day. It will shorten life. other than that you can change brands and %'s all you want to!

Sounds like everyone agrees. Excellent. The fuel I'm currently using is not the easiest to get, too far on the other side of town. And I've never heard anything bad about Byron's Gen 2 so I'll probably move to that.

you will love gen 2. You may find cooler temps with higer nitro going to it too! <<--- my answer to your SC question

One of my buddies just found Byron's Gen 2 30% for about $15 cheaper than a bottle of O'Donnell. Probably will be switching once I finish the bottle.

i love byrons, tuning satys pretty consistant. only downfall is i find it real stinky on the exhaust......but that why we havwe nitro not electric isn't it?
