Hey guys what do you thing about opening up the inlet and outlet of the Carb to allow more air flow in and out of the carb also polishing it to make it flow easier.

Do you thing this would help or what?

I was thinking it would help a tad to get the air in easier and out. This stuff would cut easy as well as it's just soft aluminum.

Just doing some thinking. I'm going to be working on a Mach 427 I picked up for nothin but needs a new piston and sleeve.

I don't think it's a good idea, you would have to do more then just drill it bigger. The barrel would have to be worked on as well and along with that, you would loose the ventury effect. I think that if there were big gains to be had, more modders would be offering it. I have heard of people trying it but no real performance increase to report. If the engine was free, try it, but I would have a second carb handy.

Hey mate you got in just before me lol
i was about to write something about this.
ok well let me start by saying i have done this mod to a Pocket Bike carburettor and it made a real difference. The only problem i believe you would come across is when i did it to the pocket bike i had to remove and completely strip down the cabr so that the filings didnt get into the needles and all of that stuff. so i believe that if you know how to completely strip down the carb it would be a worthwile mod. I will try to find a link to the pocket bike Carb mod because i found it was really helpfull.

Well I will try it on this engine and see what it does. I won't be able to tell a before and after so not sure if it will help me. I will at some point pick up another carb and throw on it and see whats best

I already have the carb completely torn apart laying in pieces. I can't see this hurting anything but may not help either. But it could as it should allow more volume and easier flow.

heyy just wondering would you pls be able to post a pic of the corb completely stripped down

I will try to get a shot tonight if I have time and post it. I may have some of the porting done by then as well.

I am also thinking of opening the hole all the way thru it as well some but leaving the ventury in it as well.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
don't go all the way through.
Ok what you want to do is get as much air in. so what you do it have a large intake or opening. then you want to to close down to normal size. this is so that you get high air velocity.

I did just a touch. I just rounded the top a little to allow easier flow into the carb. I'm sure it wont make a difference. Here is a picture of it with a touch of polishing, It is much better now but no pictures of it.

Here is also a picture of just the body.

I did this aswell to a pocket bike carb but have yet to put it together and run it. I've started gathering the pieces strewn about after being apart for 3 yrs. Not looking forward to the rebuild! I used a conical grinding stone off a Snap On truck that happened to be perfect. I also opened up the jets and venturi all the way through. I think it wouldn't hurt unless you have to richen it to the point the eng couldn't handle it. Been thinking of doing the same to a F4.6 I got laying around. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Looks like it turned out well Larsen, I think you should see some gains from that. I thought you were doing it differently but that should work out just fine. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks guys, I don't think it could hurt anything. May not see any gains but I guess if it helps a little even if not noticed every little bit counts.
