Hi guys,

I just picked up a used Savage off Craigslist yesterday. It's in rough shape, and I'm looking to make it shine once again. And I'm a born again newb. This is my first nitro. Can you tell me what I got, or how old it might be? The body says Savage 25, but I'm not sure if they are original or not. And what motor might this be? It says HPI on both sides, and the pull start says Nitro Star.

Thanks!

That is indeed a .25 Savage, looks to be pretty stock except for the shocks and ripe for some upgrades......

Thanks again. I noticed a lot of the parts just specify Savage. Does that mean they will fit all Savages? Others note something like X, XL, Flux, or SS. I assume SS just mean stainless steel, correct? What about the others? Will they X or XL work or do I need to find 25 parts?

It depends on the part. some parts, such as a-arms, are universal to all models except the xl.( the x and xl are the newest models, the xl being slightly longer and wider. the 25 is the 2nd oldest model, early 2000's, which came ready to run. you have the ss version, which stands for super sport I believe. it came as a kit.)

other parts, such as tranny gears, are not.( I think. I'm not exactly sure on the tranny gears)

as for differential, get either flux or x diffs. they are better than the 25 diffs.

The Savage SS is a Kit version, the Flux is an electric version using LiPo batteries, XL is just that an Extra Large version,The X is one of the latest nitro versions.... there have been many many versions of the Savage over the years. thankfully most parts are interchangeable between models so getting parts should not be too difficult......

there you have most of the savages that have been offered so far, as you can see there are several iterations of this platform.....
I omitted the Savage 21 because it is kind of moot since it and the 25 are almost identical except for the engine
