Brushless Power!!!

I was sick of nitro so I decided to convert my savage to brushless. It's very much a work in progress as at the time of writing this I haven't even considered ordering the electrics for it. My first priority is building a working savage. Cause my savage was in such a terrible condition I started ordering parts. I have ordered so many parts now that I think I am going to build a whole new savage. I'll also fix my old savage up a bit and maybe treat it to a shiny new motor.

The first part of my project has begun with the arrival of a little package. Here is a pic:
Bits1.JPG

The pic is not the best quality, taken in a hurry as the camera battery was dying and no the wheels and tryes are not for the savage they are for the Mini-t.

Things that are on my shopping list of things to buy are (feel free to comment, suggestions welcome):

basically the rest of the truck, I am starting from scratch so everything that isn't in the pic and not listed below. I have a bunch of bits in the mail still as well.

Feigao 9xl brushless motor
MGM Compro 160 amp, 18 cell brushless car controller
8000mah 2s LiPo Battery
8000mah 3s LiPo Battery

Proline Badlands MT for Shoes

I am a bit concerned that I may run out of funds on this project. Hopefully that's not the case. If I do this may become a nitro. Feel free to :stickpoke: if things stop moving.

same here it sounds interesting i would like to see it and watch it run. A+ for taking a project like this on

When a few more of the bits arrive i'll be able to start building. It will take me a while to finish though. I'm going on holiday soon so I have to stop buying parts so I have some money for that.

excellent tim, we are all on the edge of our seats now.

list those parts you have, cant make out from pic.

cant wait, the Feigao 9xl brushless motor
is sick,

Parts I have so far are:
4 HPI/MIP CVDs
Sav X rollcage
FLM Low CG Chassis plates
FLM Alu diff cups
FLM Centre Dog bones
Diff gaskets
HD drive cups

The other parts in the picture are for the mini T:
Mip diff
4 Dirt Hawgs
Silver wheels
alloy steering assembly

I'll post more bits next week when they arrive

Small update. Look what just turned up in the mail.

Edit I might update this pic when I get home with a better quality pic.
There is a better pic

Well I was looking at the irc losi style shocks but the cost of replacement parts scared me off so probably a set of lst2 shocks.

Edit: More Bits

Well another little update. I have started to put things together. I have become stuck though as I need bearings before I can go further. I have to say that the fast lane machine stuff is damn sexy. See for your self.

My old savage is going back together as well. new diff and tranny cases, alloy diff cups, new centre drive cups and dog bones.

So terminator like.

Mmmm Sexy

Had a little trouble installeng the skid plate. Nothing a dremel couldn't fix though.

I Love Those Chassis Plates!! I'm Thinking Of Buying A Pair Myself!! Going To Be A Real Looker Mtbikertim!!:10:

It would be nice to keep it all silver aluminium but there are going to be a couple of purple bits. Thanks for the complements guys. I can't wait to get this finished. Sadly I am going to have to wait for the pay checks to come in.

how long untill you recieve the motor?

I haven't really decided. I'm not to worried about the motor as they are fairly cheap (well the feigao motors are link). It's the ESC and batteries. They are really expensive and mounting the batteries I know is going to be so much fun.

hI,

wOw THAT LOOKS GREAT SO FAR.(caps lock sorry) I just saw that brushless conversion for the first time today. I am really curious about this, do you think it will have the power of nitro? I have only looked at that one site Crash had linked in another thread, thing is they never did any ratings in HP, they are all in watt's.

when you go to buy batteries, look around, that site listed some LiPo's but did not give any C rating's, when you look for them, and I would go for LiPo's just make sur you get a LiPo bag to charge them in, they can explode) Also the way they rate batteries is by voltage, milli amp hour (mah), and "C" rating, what you do to calculate the total amps they will output is multiply the C rating with the mah, so if you have a 8000mah C15 this means 8 x 15 this would give you 120 amps of power that the battery will be able to give, they usually have a C for continous and pulsed output so if it was 800mah 15C continous 20C pulsed (or momentary) you could actually get 160 amps out of it but you wouldn't want to run it that high for long.

These guys have some good lipos and cheaper than anywhere I have found, they have aa very high C rating cmpared to most other lipos around, they have some pretty cheap motors and brushless controllers too, (don't know how good they are) but the bateries are great. https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=86&curPage=3

Just don't know if they have the mah you want, you could write them and ask, I beleive they make them.

Good luck, can't wait to hear how it runs.

Ok I thought I would post an update and just a little bit of news. Basically if anything my brushless savage project has gone a bit backwards. That FLM chassis above has gone onto my nitro savage and if you follow this link you will see why LINK. So FLM is hard at work and I do like their work.

So the project definitely hasn't stopped I'm just waiting for something like this to come out. I'm also praying that the Mamba Monster Max comes out soon too. It is rumoured to be coming out around march which I am OK with as I should be just getting bored with my nitro savage around that time.

I'll post a pic of where the brushless savage sits tonight too. It ain't much at the moment.

I can't wait to drive it once mine is finished. When I find pics of a built savage with this chassis I will be sure to post them.

2 updates. First I painted my first body (I'm a big boy now). Piccies:

It sitting on all I currently have of the brushless savage (+ tranny and some minor bits). This relates to my second update. I said I would post pics of the Fast Lane Machine brushless chassis with the tranny moved forward. Well here are some pics. I origianally got the pics and info from here. They aren't mine sadly. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134790&postcount=37.

The price is set at $140.00.

The kit includes everything to do the conversion from the tvps, battery hold down, motor mount, drive shafts, servo plate, screws and anything necessary to do an effortless conversion.

The conversion is out of testing and production has already begun a few days ago. The only thing we are waiting for is the drive shafts to come back from heat treat. I am hoping they will be done by 12/20. As soon as we get the shafts the kits will be sent to rc-monster. He will have the kits exclusively for some time.

As for the reverse: I am sure you could get it to work. But for now there will be nothing in the kit to allow it to bolt on. However if you really want it on there we can help.

sorry, Its early here. lol

good luck, I may be your biggest fan. The only (almost) living brushless savage here.

Yay, I finally bought my chassis and it arrived yesterday. I built it up last night and it is sweet. Everything fit together perfectly. I had a few issues when building my NITRO savage with an FLM chassis and everything fitting together but this went together without a hitch. All the holes lined up perfectly with the tranny case and bulk heads. Still no battery, motor or esc yet but I am working on it. I'll try to get some photos of it built tonight. It was too late to take photos last night. Pictures of just the chassis in packet:

This is a picture overload but this kit is impressive so it deserves a lot of pictures. Some of the pictures I have tried to show the length difference between it and the standard length chassis. Also note the position of the tranny.

when done with right batterys and motor could be faster than any nitro savage sinmply cus motor can spin faster and harder than any nitro
