I bought my Savage used so I didn't have to break my Savage in and don't really understand exactly what breaking the engine in means.

breaking in an engine is where you let the parts wear 'evenly' and stuff. If you get a new motor it's a must if not you will have a VERY SHORT engine life. When you get a new motor it tells you how to break it in. Pretty easy just time consuming but it's worth the time down the road.

yup...I got my Savage used, and I'm fairly certain the kid I got it from said "who needs to break it in?!? just run it wide open from the start!!!" so I ended up with a weak motor...

best way to check your remaining compression, or "pinch" is to try turning the flywheel by hand...the harder it is to turn, the better your compression, the more life is left in your engine...

Thanks guys. I really appreciated it.
