Need help, Finally have time to break my SavageX in, and go through 4 tanks on the stand. Everything was going well until I put it on the ground to start the half throttle circles. Truck will only run for about 4 feet and die. i am new to tunning and didn't adjust anything. Tried it about 5 times an decided to come in and ask you guys which way to go. Thanks for any help.

i would try leaning out about a 1/4 turn and see what that gets you
Let me know how that dose. I know that from factory they are set really rich

Ive just finished running my new engine in & i think i had a similar issue. In the end, rather than adjusting the throttle on the trigger,i used the trim adjuster to get it going. It was turned up quite high(maybe 3/4) but it seemed to work well.As the engine ran,the revs rose,so as it got faster,i turned the trim down.Once the trim was almost set at zero,i started tapping the trigger, then after a couple of taps, the engine started responding better than before. All that was left was to turn the trim down totally & to start using the trigger again.I don't know if i should,or shouldnt have done this, the engine runs sweet though now the break in is finished.

These engines are set at the factory to run very rich so lean out your HSN 1/4 of a turn at a time until you can get the engine to at least run and respond to your throttle trigger. Once you have completed break in take a look in the manual on how to tune your motor, and if you have any more tuning questions, or any other type of question feel free to ask. BTW welcome to the forum. This is a great forum with good people willing to help you out. Good luck on finishing up your break in and have fun running your truck.

Lean it out. Don't be scared! 4 tanks on the stand is plenty of running at stock settings for the engine to be broken in.

He's right! It's leaning and wheelie time!

Check for smoke at full throttle (make sure you are seeing some) and get a temp gun if you don't have one already.

Thanks guys for the help, Leaned hsn two small turns and it worked. Sorry so long to reply, had alot of rain, but have been tunning and running the engine. Have not gotten idle quite right yet but truck runs good. I think I have the half tank lean issue. I have had to make alot of small adjustments. I have broke the savage x in on Blue thunder sport fuel, but have always used trinity monster 20% in my duratrax warhead. Local hobbie shop was out of trinity. About the half tank lean issue What's the easiest fix, or better yet what's the best fix? I have had more fun with my X in a little las than 3 quarters of a gallon, than in the 4 months I've owned my duratrax. Thanks for all your help.

The lean is caused by the stock tank. You can lengthen your fuel lines and that helps it not be as bad. But the only fix is replacing the tank. There are a few different tanks you can use. It just depends on how much other work you want to do to make the tank fit. There is an OFNA tank that fits right in the stock tank location but its a bit smaller than the stock tank. Or do a midtank mod and potentially add runtime. I'm using a 250cc tank right now and I get about 18 minutes of runtime per tank with an Axial .28 and 3 speed transmission..

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm adjusting the HSN clockwise. After one turn it seems to help a bit, but I'm afraid that I'm turning it too far. How far is it safe to adjust the HSN during break-in?

Are you heat cycling it or doing it by the book? If your cycling it I don't like it to go over 235F. I shoot for between 210 and 220.

I have no idea what "heat cycling" is, but I'm doing it as described in the HPI Savage XL manual.
