pretty much what i do!! i NEVER idle it through a tank or whatever because to much idling isnt good for any motor in my opinion.. i put it on the ground and just take it easy and gradually give it more throttle and i haven't had any problems..

Yes this is comonly called the heat cycle method. Most of us use this method with slight veriations slightly different temps and times ect. I bring my temps up to about 120. Then let cool completely down then do it again. I do this through about a half gallon to a full gallon on my mills before I even start getting on it at all. Just try to take your time with it. So it builds a nice glossy piston and sleeve. Hopefully a few more hits will chime in n this with their methods to. Just go slow and it pays off. Good luck.

cool well i will do this method then, more fun then the other method get to drive it at least, 🙂. i did the other (refured as the old school method) with the f4.6 which is what hpi recommended (in there Manual) but saw this method and figured i would ask you guys about it.

yeah hopfully others will share there methods as well or there veriations on this one.

Just remember the mill is supposed to drive the truck so letting it sit idle doesnt do the mill much good . But take your time. Take it to an open flat lot and drive it around 1/2 throttle for awile. After about 5-6 tanks slowley start to tune. OH yeah let the engine cool between tanks. I always tune on the rich side. But I can bash tank after tank for hours.

i like to get my mills up to 200 and no hotter than 205 and i let it cool 15 mins between tanks with the piston at bdc so that when the sleev cools it wont re shape to the piston and cause un necesary loss in pinch in turn prolonging the life and to keep the performance up but one thing most ppl forget is to put a few drops of aro in the mill and turn it over with the plug out to help "pre-lube" before the first start.

eric....

so how many tanks does everybody recommend or that they do? nitrobashin said 5-6 tanks is there a set number on how many? or just more the marrier? and do you run the entire tank or just intervilles of 3 to 5 min. then cool then restart then another, and so on and so forth. sorry for all the dumb questions i just want to make sure i get this right and not mess up a 200 dollar engine this is only my 3 nitro engine so I'm still kind of new to this.

My theory is the better the break in the better mill you get. I said 5-6 tnaks with cooling in between. Thats befor you even start tuning the hsn. Then its up to you hoe you want it tuned. lean it ou at very small intervals till hs get how you want it. Not to lean. Mine take usually a tank at each setting. Every body has different tech. Good luck. No question is stupid Here.
