I'm trying to install the fibreglass dual disc brake setup on my savage le. I still have the rear end and motor out, but I was testing the brakes and the brake arm doesnt return to it's original position. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes they lock up and the braking arm wont return. What's wrong?

That is odd. I'm not to familiar with the older Savages but mechanically they are the same. Is there any grime in the shaft or on the brake housing where the piston is? with the arm off of the servo can you feel where it is binding up? I have the steel dual disks and mine hit the clutch bell at times. mine would also lock up and not release if the brake screws that held the calipers on where to tight. hope this helps a little.

Ive tried backing off those screws, it's not that because I backed them off to the point where applying the brakes did nothing and it still didn't help.

It just seems that when you release the brakes, the arm wont return to the neutral position. The brake arm is still slanted foward when releasing the brakes, in effect causing the brakes to remain engaged. Only when pushing the arm back vertical manually will the brakes then disengage and the discs spin freely again.

Track meet 2mora, 1am! Not cool! 🙁

ok if that is the case how about getting a locking collate. the ones with the grub screw in it. put that on the rod in front of the brake arm. when you give it gas the arm will hit the collate and drive it forward to disengage the brakes.

Yeah I thought of that but then you wont be able to coast, so basically after applying the brakes they will stay applied until you hit the throttle effectively removing the ability to coast the truck!

What about a brake arm return spring?

I just don't get why I need to do any of this really, but I just want it fixed.

i belive what he ment worm was he should not have to mod a part that should fit and work properly. But that is true if you don't like working on them you should get a throw away r/c
