I need some help figuring out why my savage XL brake setup keeps eating any kind of brakes i throw at it. !st the stock brakes disapeared after a bash session (i think they got wet if that will do it), then i went to the hobby shop and they gave me graphite break disks which just shattered during the first run, then i decided to just try and go steel breaks, well i did that and the preak pad stickies are gon after just 1 1/2 session. I don't know if i have bad luck with tuning in my brakes but i need a fix, I don't like taking out my savage with no breaks thats just asking fore something bad to happen.

wow you shouldnt be going through brake pads-discs that fast are you sure there not dragging while your truck is moving? or hopefully someone else here has a few suggestions for u..

It sounds like your brakes are either binding or engaging while you're at idle or throttling. Try adjust the brake arm so that the brake lever doesn't engage at either throttle or idle, but still engages when you brake.

deathrage, welcome to the forum. i moved this into its own thread so you would get a better response and keep the other members thread on track. My quick recommendation is to the OFNA mod your throttle/brake linkage, you will get better throttle and brake response.

The original brakes may have needed a linkage adjustment or the spring assy in the stock servo horn may have been too week, or they were wet, many things could have been wrong so its tough to say what specifically was wrong.

don't know about the graphite disks because I never ran them.

Pads on the SS brakes tore out about 3/4 of a gallon. SS brakes not worth it.
The dual red fiber brakes should be a good set up and last more than a couple of tanks.

First make sure that your brakes aren't engaged when you pull the throttle, I have had that problem before. Second try using the steel disc brakes, only don't the the pads they give you, just run metal on metal. If they are set right you should be able to go nose wheelies. Try some of our suggestions and let us know what worked.

I have a set of metal brake pads, how do i set them up to go metal on metal. There just seems to be to much space in between the break pads for them to be effective without the sandpaper stickies that go in between. And as a side note from what i could tell that the breaks were not engaging while it was in drive, nore were they binding.

Just screw them down tighter and put some washers on both screws to take up the extra space.

I just got back from trying out your sugestion. I removed what sticky pads that were left on the brake calipers, and reset the brake linkage to the lowes (screwed all the way out) and proceded to work on it from there. I eventualy got it to where it stoped resonably fast and didnt make any of that "popin" and "grinding" noise that you know is just bad news waiting to happen. And when i did it lasted mabey 2 laps around the parkinglot before the responsiveness disapeared, apon investigation the top screw that holds the calipers in place had un screwed itself (gonna try again with locktight), but has me the most concerned is that i found a crap tone of metal shaving on the calipers. I know that there was going to be some but this is retarded, I am concered becuase i realy don't want to be driving my rig and then see it rid off into the sunset and get hit by a car or hit a wall going full speed becuase the brakes got jacked up. To sum it all up: metal brakes w/o pads good...but scary.

Thats the plan. My local hobby shop doesnt have any in stock so o got to order some from the internets. My origonal pair went missing/shredded after a bashing session. There were some puddles around and the brakes may have gotten wet, could that be ther reason that the origonal disks disapeared
