looks like clutch shoe material to me, best take it apart and have a look see.....
I just bought it sat, Ran 3 tanks of fuel yesterday. Maybe it was idling to high and slipping clutch. I haven't gotten into the tearing these things apart fun yet. Hoping I wouldn't have to anytime soon.

I was seeing aluminum on mine, my aluminum shoes were not seated correctly. I am not familiar with the plastic spur, but check that it is not being chewed up.

My first thought was the plastic spur, but seeing the location of the dust leads me to agree with Jam Racing 1.
Just like new brakes, the shoes need to "seat" themselves. The initial contact would be with the edges, which are now probably close to worn off, and then they will sit evenly against the clutch bell. It won't hurt to have a look inside just to be on the safe side. It's all part of the learning process.

All I know is every time I get a new bell or shoes, the first thing I do is wash them in DA and rough the contact areas up with sandpaper. Guessing the same should be done to an RTR as they tend to come with a film on them.
