i have 21 savage and ive had it about 2 years and wanted to know how big i can go engine wise without ruining something

Well Ive got a Platinum .28 Ive been told its close to a spec 3 motor made by dynamite and its starting to wake up its very strong the breakin used was the heat cycle method. still haven't changed anything on the truck exept new diff cups jsut cuz the old ones were worn out but there stock not HD.but if you look at my savage its got a few up grades mainly for handling. but back to your question depends on how you take care of your truck and how you drive it. if your going all out and gone bash the cr@p out of it then yeah go HD all the way but if your pocket cant handle that kinda bashing then stick to normal bashing and put what ever you want in. it will tell you what it wants.

i like takeing my truck out and beatin it little bit but my wallet wont handle what those super bashers do some of that is crazy...but anyway ididnt know diffs would help handle the power of a bigger engine. I'm looking for and engine with alot more torque and power than the stock 21BB that i have and ive looked @ os and couple other brands but if u have some suggestions than i would appreciat it

here is my truck:10: :10:

first of all upgrade your diffs .. then put a .28 in there or .30 or .32

SJ I STILL HAVEN"T UPGRADED MY DIFFS! lol. I am running the sts .28 and still on stock 2 gear diffs.......and yes I run it hard.....off road racing and oval racing and jumping wherever I can. Most people upgrade diffs and I recommend that you do....I think I have just been EXTREMELY LUCKY

First of all the crazy part...that's me for sure, along with probably at least 1/4 - 1/2 of the crazy people on this forum...lol.

All joking aside...The reason most guys upgrade their diffs is because the stock Savy 21 originally came with 2 bevel gear diffs. The upgraded Savy diffs are 4 bevel gear diffs. Bascially, the theory (and proven point), is that now you're spreading that power out over 4 gears at each end of the truck, instead of putting that much force on just 2 at each end.

As for a motor, I believe that *most* of the guys here run either a .28, .30, or .32 as SJ suggested. There are quite a few of us, myself included, that would recomment an STS .28 or .30 (take it easy fellas...not trying to start another tiff...lol). I've also heard very good things about Axial motors, and many of these other guys will have some more suggestions as well.

I guess more than anything, buy something that you can fit in your price range (I know...it's an expensive hobby anyway), and something that you'll like. This site is full of very experienced people that love to help out anyone with questions...they've been through a lot of the problems and joys of R/C...lol!!

thanx for info i looked it up and 4 bevel gear diffs arent that expensive but is installation a pain in the a$$ or is it pretty easy

It involves dismantling the whole truck. Not really but it seems that way the first time you do it. it is possible to sometimes get the whole diff and diff case of ebay for the savage x. makes diff work a lot easier.

Has anyone tried an RB 928 in a savage. I have got one sitting around. do I have to do any mods. I will be putting it in a SS

Lazy..? That is the only way to buy diff's if you ask me you get everything for allot less then it would be if you bought just the ring and pinion. You get hd cups alloy cases. ring and pinion and bulkhead

only way to go I have bought many that way ... Iam REALLY LAZY !!!!!
