Best way to clean air filter?

whats the best way or most common way to clean the air filter? just soap and water? or a special cleaner you use thats around the house? any suggestions will help thanks.
i have a motor saver air filter.

i clean mine with the dish washing liquid & warm water. several washes, several rinses, dry & re-oil.

I flood it with simple green a couple times, several rinses in between, then re-oil it. I have been using some blue filter oil, from ofna, I think. Works pretty good.

LA's totally awesome (a brand of cleaner) is excellent for cleaning air filters. rinse with hot water, dry and re oil. if its a 2 stage with an exposed first stage i WD40 the foam in the winter to repel snow.

thanks guys i will try the dishwashing liquid would the k&n air filter oil work good for reoiling the filter or should i get some thing else?

I have a zip lock bag oiled and ready and another with dirty ones ,when it gets full I drop them in the washing machine (Early morning before BOSS gets up)
