hi there guys,

i'm a relative newbie to this whole scene but managed to lay my hands on a savage 25 at a relative bargain price.

on my first outing in my over enthusiasm i may have caused a few minor issues. firstly can you confirm that the part that runs from the center of the car to the rear underneath is a CVD dogbone shaft? i'm jus using guess work from ebay on that, its the bit missing on to the right on the picture below.

Also i took it to my local bmx track, and jumped over a pair of humps and landed on the front end and thepipe connected to the airfilter came off at the bottom just below where the yellow tie wrap is on the picture below, and it hasn't really stayed on right since, and tips on getting it to stay on?

Thanks for your time.

Yep, that's a dogbone that is missing there bud. They aren't real expensive, but you'll have to unbolt the bulkheads and skids to get a new on in there.

As for the air filter, get a small 2mm wide zip tie, and replace that one. Tighten it as tight as it will go when it's on the carb the correct way. 🙂

Welcome to HPISF as well! 🙂 If there's anything else you need to know, the guys here would be more than happy to help! 🙂

For the air filter, try cutting of the tie wrap and make sure you get the filter down on there as far as it can go, then re-apply a tie wrap good and tight. That should fix that problem unless something is either torn or cracked.

also, in case there is any doubt....NEVER EVER run your truck without the air filter in place...

and welcome to the forums!!

hey wlecome to the family try what evryone else has said and fill us in on how it truns out

Welcome to the forum!! If you don't have a manual go to this website and you can get a pdf manual for your truck...http://rcdocuments.com/?page=1

The dog bone you are missing is the 8 x 84mm dog bone, HPI Part # 86056,
the other one is the 8 x 78mm dog bone, HPI Part # 86057.

Good luck and have fun!!

thanks for your help on the dogbone guys! fitted the new one yesterday (after a 40 mile round trip to fetch it) back on the road and chasin the dog walkers away

having fitted my new dogbone i've been paying attention to the pipe popping off today, and have deduced that it isnt what i first thought, its the carb popping out 🙁 is this a major boo boo?

Yep, if your carb is coming off this is definately not good. You may as well remove it, and check it over properly. Check that the part of the carb that goes into the engine is not worn from being loose. If it's worn from vibration where the pinch bolt holds it, you may not be able to tighten it where you want it. Make sure you clean away any dust from around the carb before removing it, to pervent contamination of the engine. Also give it a good clean before you refit it. Check the pinch bolt is ok and the screw is not seized or anything. Put the carb back in the engine and install the pinch bolt from one side and the screw from the other. Position the carb so that the throttle linkage works without binding, then try tightening the pinch bolt a little bit. Not too tight though ! If it feels like it will hold and your happy with the position of the carb, then tighten it up a bit more, again not too tight. When tightening down the carb make sure that you keep downward pressure on it, so that the O ring will seal properly. Some people use a small amount of sealent around this area, just to be sure of a good seal.

Hope this helps.

*** ADMIN EDIT ***! do we have any links to tutorials on taking this of and cleaning it? as i'm a complete tool and have no idea!

I'm not sure, but you can just clean the outside of the carb with some denatured alcohol and a small brush. Don't try to take the carb apart, and make sure you cover up the hole in the bottom of the carb with your finger or something to stop any dirt going back in. It isn't a big job, it's just a bit of a fiddle, but then most things are in this hobby ! If your not confident to do this, you can just try doing up the pinch bolt to see if it will hold the carb anyway. All the other bits are just what I would do for peace of mind.
