I will be running a rb tm728 drag modded by Robin, with a 2 speed.Gearing 17 18 cb 47 or so gear I mostly bash, hillclimb with friends. Now should I belt the badlands or not.(tires will be glued on the rims )I am leaning to not.

caz you loose grip. my zombies don't hook up on any surface really (belted) caz they don't 'mush'

my dirt bonz on the flux grab sweet and don't really balloon.

i think ballooning (on a nitro) is better solved with thicker diff oil caz you end up with the best of both worlds: grip & better control caz your diffs less likely to unload.

Mush?

I have a set of zombies as well and they get zero traction even at low speeds. That is the tire itself not belting.

Belting a tire keeps it from balloning. Balloning causes very little of the tire to contact the ground which causes a loose in traction. Belting them helps to keep as much of the tire as possible in contact with the ground.

HUH, what did you use to belt your zombies with. Mine hook up pretty well on everything from what I can tell however there is much better out there, but I run a unmodded LRP on that truck as well. Mine are wrapped with a single layer of Duct Tape.

I tend to agree a non belted tire at low speeds will probably get better traction on uneven ground but a belted tire will be more stable and under control expecially at higher speeds.

I don't really get what you are saying Freddy. From my experience belting has help a lot with stability and even helped my tires hook up better. I hate when tires balloon and it feels like the truck is ready to roll at any time.

As for Zombies I had them and I slid around on every surface but asphalt. Diff oil is crucial too but I still belt all my tires.

I have 7000wt 5000wt silicon in the diffs f/r maybe I should run thicker?Slower speeds unbelted, makes sense.High speed, for straight line top speed only I think the ballooning would help, bigger cir***ference, more top speed ,less tire patch, less friction, unless the tires rip off.But for me bashing and hillclimbing I need all of the tire (patch),going belted

if youre talking a nitro truck, moulded foams & heavier diff oil would make more of a difference.

but yeah, if you want to belt you should belt. see if you like/dislike & hit this thread back & let us know. :jamout:

ok for my imput i have a set of belted badlands and a set of unbelted badlands and i prefer the unbelted on every surface other then ashphalt as some ballooning is good in the softer stuff. and the ballooning tires gives you better in air control

Thanks Micky ,for putting me on the fence. So you figure the ballooning creates more centrifugal force, hence better control in the air?Well I don't have to decide for a while yet.

ya i wouldnt belt another set. just use good molded foams with the badlands and they are good. yes the larger diameter when they balloon gives you more control in the air imho.

kinda hard to explain what i mean.

but belting a tire (like over inflating a tire) will keep the tire's form true & give you more slip/less traction on take off. it will make your tire more likely to spin.

an unbelted tire makes it softer/more mooshy, whatever so it will grab, not spin.

That give at take off is provided by the side wall though and belting doesn't effect that. I just don't like my tires ballooning up to jelly doughnuts when running. Like to keep a good sized contact patch.

I love these debates. No real right answer just what works best for you. Only way to find that out is to try them both yourself on diffrent tires you want to run.

Good point about the molded foams Freddy. I have never belted a set of tires with the stock foams, nothing but molded for me. If the OP hasn't figured it out yet we all have different views on what works best. Just play around with the options and see what you like best.

I don't belt also..

Badlands don't balloon on my picco truck next to at all with ofna foam, drag mod picco by robin, 19/47 3 speed hi speed 3rd.

Stiffer foams help allot too. That was the cure to my soft and ballooning dirt bones. Ofna yellows and they don't give me issues anymore yet still expand and grab the ground enough for my lrp truck to pick up the nose at 30mph in 2nd on grass.

Just belt the foams, don't squish them, just a nice snug wrap, 2 and a bit. :bad driver:

From what I have read, Robin has the best iderer 50/50 belt the foam(hell sparkys are smart) that's the the way I am going, thanks for all the input.
