When starting it feels like the rotorstart cranks the engine and then there is some slipage and then grabs again.
Is it the one way bearing on the backplate?
Is it the shaft where the one way bearing spins?
Is there an upgrade?

Which engine is this for? I presume its a F4.6 from a savage RTR.
Sounds like the OWB is slipping. take the roto plate off and you can clean the OWB and put it back in, but the lfe on that one way is limited. Only upgrade I know of is go to a pull start. P/S will increase the life of your one way

Clean the OWB with denatured alcohol and check for cracks. If it still slips, replace it.

Also don't use Traxxas fuel, it's been known to make these slip.

Like people have said it sounds like your One way bearing is slipping. This can be due to it actually broken or because it's got some oil on it and it's slipping. If it is the first time the bearing is slipping chances are it's just slipping and you can use some nitro car cleaner or something else to clean it. But I would recommend getting a spare because the bearing is on it's last legs.

Here are the One Way Bearings for the stock F4.6 and K4.6 and K5.9 motors.

Like what was said, your fuel can be what has caused your OWB to slip. Traxxas fuel does have a lot of oil content. I had the same thing happen to me when I used Blue Thunder. There was just to much oil in the fuel. Some brands I have used with great luck are the following:
- O'Donnell
- Byron's
- Sidewinder

Any of these will put you in the right direction. I am running O'Donnell. Has been the best for me but I will say, when tuning, the fumes are very hard on the eyes compared to other fuels.
