I know it sounds corny but it is true.

I'm back in love with my Savage!!

I bought my first savage when the 25 first came out. Had it for a couple years and did some mods to it. I was enjoying it until I sent it to my LHS and they actually LOST it.

So I got myself the Xss 4.6 a few months ago and it's been lots of fun. I've been very distracted with my fleet of helicopters until I realized that r/c cars and trucks were my first love.

So I gave the helis bit of rest and have fallen back in love with my Savage. Although the helis are a lot of fun, I enjoy myself more with the Savage.

I've started researching hop-ups on this forum and I plan to pretty much go all out with this truck, as I'm going to keep this one around indefinitely. I already a suspension upgrade using the integy MSR5 kit and I did a couple control arms. I'm going to do the chassis, shock towers, chassis braces and low profile tires with some aluminum wheels. After I want to focus on better servos, mid tank and throttle servo mods. Then I will be going for a better/faster engine.

I don't really bash as most of my driving is on asphalt and dirt.

This forum has been an unlimited source of information for me. I've been building and running these things for over 15 years now, but there's always something new out there to learn.

Just thought I'd share my plans and I will keep this forum up-to-date.

Thanks for viewing.

So in addition to my MSR5 suspension, I am awaiting delivery on the integy evolution 3 suspension kit, FLM extended chassis and a couple more aluminum upgrades.

Shortly I will be ordering the chassis braces, beadlock wheels with some proline 40 series, titanium turnbuckles and titanium main gear. I know some of you guys say that it does not make sense trying to go for low weight on the savage, but I can afford the titanium and i want to see the difference.

Will keep you guys posted later on.

duude titanium. ouch. I came across a titanium kit for the savage the other day and was stunned at the price. Sounds like it's going to be a sweet truck. Since it sounds like you could if you wanted too. Ever considered going brushless? I assume you would have some experience with brushless from your helis.

Edit just noticed the trex in your sig. I was really keen to get a trex 450se v2 and still am I just have to find the money. They look like so much fun.

what do you mean...brushless on the savage?

I just sold my 450SE V1 to get the V2. Both the 450 and the 600 are brushless....amazing technology.

Honestly, I have a lot of fun on my savage. The helis are fun as well but unless you already know how to fly, it requires a lot of time and I find them really interesting and I love the technology behind them as wel.

I love the fact that I can just start my truck and get ripping right away. It's really convenient and I just need to keep the truck clean and tuned well. Helis require a lot more time and attention (which I do not really have right now), so I'm still in the building process of my 600 and really focusing on my Savage.

So far I got the FLM extended chassis and chassis braces, integy MSR5 suspension, all integy aluminum arms and shock towers, 3 speed tranny and a few other miscellaneous upgrades.

Next is going to be either some beadlock or aluminum wheels, road tires, titanium main gear, aluminum front and rear diff housing, engine and diff upgrade (looking into the advantages of dual engines as well), servo upgrade.

For what a brushless savage is take a look at the tread here:

I'm doing something similar to this. It's going to be an ongoing project for a while but it should be sweet when it's done.
Here is my project thread: https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3265

I am really keen to get into helis. I know they take a stupid amount of work to learn to fly but that is half the fun. It's not easy. The reason I want brushless is to cut down on the maintenance on the Heli as I can imagine that could get old fast. I watched all the finless videos on how to setup the trex 450 and I like it a lot those videos teach you a lot.

One subject your project is looking good. I think with the engines and their prices today you really don't need twin engine. I think that's why the twin engines have died off a bit in savages.

UPDATE>>>

So I've made some major progress on my truck. I installed the FLM extended LCG chassis and the integy evolution 3 suspension kit which includes aluminum upper and lower suspension arms as well as aluminum shock towers. Also installed the FLM aluminum engine plate. I've also got the integy MSR5's installed as well and a new fuel filter. Still have to install my new clutch.

Now I'm about to install the integy chassis braces but I'm not sure how they install on the FLM chassis. Does anyone know how this is done?

I'm waiting on my 3 speed transmission I bought from powerhobby but haven't received it and it's been about 4 weeks. Getting a bit worried here. Also still have to get my beadlocks and new road tires. Going to do a service on the engine, clean it out and mount her back in. Looking at the mid tank setup as well in the near future and also stronger servos.

All in all, I think the truck looks way nicer and I'm sure it's going to handle much better. Can't wait to get her running again.

Finally all the new stuff is mounted on the truck (well except the integy chassis braces because they won't work on the FLM chassis) and I took her out yesterday for a spin.

I'll tell you, that FLM chassis is a massive difference compared to the stock one. The truck seems more agile and much more responsive.

I installed the new 3 speed and WOW!!. Nice...
The acceleration is exceptional but I've got to tune the gear shifts. New suspension works fine but I need to put in the 40 wt. oil in them.

Next to come will be beadlock wheels and some road tires, new faster engine, better servos, battery pack, aluminum housings for tranny and both diff cases, mid tank mount, some aluminum turnbuckles, new body, upgraded bearings and screw set.

Will post some photos up tomorrow.
