I read a thread not too long ago about the Motor Saver air filter vs the savage X filter. In the thread some were saying that the X filter is just as good as the M.S. In terms of being able to filter the particles of dirt from the air, I believe this is true. As far as performance goes, I have not seen a better filter than the Motor Saver, and here's why.
In the pictures below I measured up a Motor Saver, HPI X and an Ofna Filter from my X1 CRT. The first picture is the I.D. of the tube that goes between the filter and carb. The Motor Saver has the largest one followed by Ofna and then the X.
This next picture shows the I.D. of the opening that lets the air flow into the tube. Again the Motor Saver takes it, and by almost 4mm over the HPI X filter.
These last pictures is where I feel the HPI X filter falls short in terms of air flow. As you can see, the Motor saver has zero restriction from the back plate forward which means it has direct airflow to the 12mm hole. The Ofna has some restriction but is still pretty open. The HPI X filter has less than half of the tube open to let air flow through and that's without the added plastic guard that fits over top of the tube.
My opinion is that the Motor Saver is the best filter on the market. I'm not saying that the HPI X filter is crap, but I do believe that if you are looking for the most performance out of your engine then the Motor Saver is a good investment.
