I'm wonderin the same silvergs. ive only run plastic (the original actually), but hpi sells the Xss steel spur as an upgrade & many run them with great results.

stick with plastic it's much better.

max, have you run both the plastic & metal & found the plastic to be better? if so, what are the 'cons' of the metal that make the plastic better? got my eye on a robinson racing setup.

Just my .02 Plastic, Plastic, Plastic.

Because its a very nice cheap weak point in the drive train. If you run the metal you will putt the strain in something much more expensive like in the transmission. The plastic will also not transfer the heat but will melt if your clutch is slipping or motors to hot.

If the mesh is set correctly the plastics will last at least a gallon.

Also, if mesh is set incorrectly with the metal you will strip out both Spur and CB=$$$$.

another vote for the plastic spur.. you can afford to keep a few of them around so if u do fry one your only down a few minutes!!!!

thanks for the opinions, bought me a couple of extra plastic spurs just in case. i just wonder b/c the ss, xl, and the new flux all sport the metal ones.

I missed this thread HD's all the way. I have the very first 2 hd spurs I ever had. Both still look like new several gallons later. Its a mith they they take out other parts. The only thing they do is add rotational mass which behind a .28 is not see or feelable.. Way more forgiving to bad mesh and hard runs in sand and tall grass that heat the CB. I have never had it or my CB's get destroyed.

as long as you run the racing clutch bell (the vented one ) you will not have a prob set your slipper properly and they will last for ever. i have the second motor on my savage with the same hpi steel spur gear. on my second savage it has the rrp steel spur and clutch bell, with no probs. i find the rrp set the teeth like to rust a bit if you run in damp or wet conditions but wd40 fixes that. so my vote goes for steel spur
