adjusting 3 speed trans Help goes 1 to 3rd!!!

Hey i took my savage x 4.6 to go get a 3 speed but i cant get it to gear right what do i do, i heard u cant adjust 2nd gear u have to open it up is it true??? any help will do me a lot thx.
