Hey guys I am new to the forum, but not to the hobby. I have found out that there is a lot of information on the site. I currently have a 4.6 on my 2.5 savage. I was having a clutch shoe issue cuz of a bad spring. SO I went to the LHS and picked up a new set of Robitrnic shoes and a set of OFNA gold clutch springs. Prior to the install, the car would not idle but it would run like a beast!!!bad driver But now with the new shoes and the springs the car is at idle, but it is hitting high RPMs and it will not shift to second gear!!!:duh: I noticed the spring does not sit in the grove on the nut inside the clutch bell. Is the nut different on the 4.6 than it is on the 2.5??? Any help will be appreciated!!!

I had the same issue with when i went to nova shoes and mugen springs with the mugen pilot nut, I had to go back to the stock pilot nut in order for the springs to seat in their groove, it seems you might have the same problem in reverse, why I don't know, mabye your new shoes are wider than stock shoes or spring placement is more forward on the shoe. you should fix that problem first. as for your truck not shifting it could be 1 of two things or both, 1 your hsn isn't tuned in correctly, 2 your shift point has been adjusted too far forward and your truck is actually starting in 2nd gear. with that being the case make sure you have a nice tune on your hsn then start backing out your shift screw, that is the 2nd screw you see on the assembly, it is very sensitive so I would suggest only backing it out 1/8 turn incriments at a time and then check your shift. you have to shut your truck down for every adjustment is the only pain but be patient you will get it. again counterclockwise makes the truck shift earlier and clockwise makes it shift later. you want to turn it to the left.

I have also seen where the cogs on the gears inside the transmission get worn off alloing the shifting clutch not to engage or catch the second gear. Something like this but worse.

The stock pilot nut is on the truck, the springs are more forward than the originals. The width of the shoes are the same, the reason we swapped out the originals is because one spring was broke and the shoe was always open, I also heard that you should use the gold springs with the bigger engine was the reason I bought those. Right now I think the gold springs are so stiff that the shoes don't open all the way and are slipping inside the clutch bell. The trucks top speed is about 1/4 of what it was with the originals, and the originals would shift thru all 3 gears. Do they make different pilot nuts for issues like this or should I try buying springs that arent so stiff?

Do you know are the springs 1mm or what or do you have a part number for them?

You can try different nuts like the Mugen nut or whatever. They are all a little different as far as placement of the Spring guide.

I personally use nova aluminum shoes and mugen 1mm springs, as for gold I have no idea, you need to know the thickness of the springs, also I don't believe that changing your springs could affect your trucks top end, unless they are soo weak that they are not grabbing your cb correctly. Sounds like you might have a tuning issue. a stiffer spring than stock is an upgrade. also not to insult your intelligence but are your shoes facing the correct way?

The springs are part number 10101 1.1m and I noticed at the LHS they had part number 10100 that I think were copper. Would you know if the LHS would have the pilot nuts you are talking about in stock or am I better off getting them online? I just don't want to order the pilot nut and run into the same issue? Thanks for the help!

F1n3sse- I know that they can be turned around pretty easily, but I double checked with the manual and they are facing the correct way...

If they are light shoes and very heavy springs they may not engage correctly and allow slippage. I do agree it could very well be tunning issues. The weather is changing a lot this time of year and will affect tuning drastically.
