3 speed transmission- side to side movement of gear set

please excuse any incorrect terminology...

After I lift off the top of the transmission / spur gear, there is a set of gears visible in the remaining transmission housing, this set of gears rides on a set of bearings. This set of gears has a lot of side to side movement, is this normal? Should it be shimmed to reduce the movement?

can you post a short vid of what your are describing? if the movement is excessive I would think about getting some shims to make it as little as possible for sure

Thanks for the reply, I may not be able to video until the week end.

I am not sure of the measurement, but I know I can move the set from side to side, maybe 2mm?
