2 speed failure

So I was driving my truck today and I noticed it wasn't shifting anymore. It was stuck in 2nd gear. I took the transmission apart to find the gear closest to the spur had 9 half broken teeth (1st gear?) but the plastic gear that it drives was fine. I think this is why it would not shift but I am not sure if I have another issue as well. What would cause the gears to break like this? Also what do I need to fix it, or should I just grab a 3 speed (due to cost being around the same)? Will going all metal inside help and is the 3 speed all metal?

the 3spd isnt all metal and I'm not sure wat would casue this but pics may help with determaning wat had happened.

Lol no. Any idea on what I should do to fix it? New gears (which ones) or should i just drop a 3 speed in?

From the looks of it the gear pack is ok. just get a new two step gear ...
