What's "pricey"? I consider $50 for a screw set pricey, but it would still be worth it if they're that much better than stock. If they're a lot more than that, I'll just stick with a $20 set off ebay.
Seriously. I did listen to you and got rid of a lot of the aluminum parts I was originally looking at. If anybody made a XXL set of TVPs, I would have gone with them (if they weren't insanely expenisve). But for what I wanted to do, the aluminum kit was the best option.
All parts ordered. Added a pair of 6s 40c lipos from HK as well. Haven't blown that much money in one evening on the internet in a while. :)
I'll start a fresh thread once everything arrives and I'm ready to do***ent the build. Thanks again to everybody who gave me suggestions, whether I...
Big thanks Josh for your input. After reading your build thread, I'm definitely going with the DB17. Because I'm starting with a nitro roller and don't have the flux motor mounting plate, I'm going to give the kershaw mount a try. I may have to drill some holes in the DB17 plates for it, but...
Spent most of the day finding out everything I could about the various extended chassis options. After much consideration, I've decided to go with...
The HPI XL conversion.
Boring, I know. But when I realized the FLM chassis was less than half an inch longer and 3x as expensive, I...
The reason I posted this stuff was to get that kind of feedback.
My main goal here is to go big. Longer, wider and higher. I want to build a monstrous monster truck. If there is a better way to go big than the 1:5 kit, then I'd love to know about it. The only real problem I see is that it...
Got a lot of criticisim in the chatbox about all the FLM parts and now I'm second-guessing my choices. Found two 1:5 conversion kits - Kershaw and TCS - which I'm eying now. Leaning toward the TCS because of the built-in roll cage. 1:5 bodies are silly expensive and I'm not a fan of any of...
Well, there isn't going to be much left of it when I'm finished :)
Here's what I plan on ordering tomorrow. I'd really appreciate a "sanity check" from you guys to make sure all the stuff I'm looking at will work together for what I'm looking to do.
FLM tranny-forward BL kit...
No battery pack will ever cause your ESC to catch fire, no matter how bad it is. Bad packs can give poor performance or destroy themselves, but they can't hurt the ESC unless they actually explode and physically damage it that way. If your ESC melts down, it is because it is overworked...
The FLM extended arms come with long dogbones. But I will take your word for it and stick with plastic arms - at least to start with. My goal with this truck is pretty much the opposite of what most people are doing. Instead of lowering it for handling, I want to raise it up. Hopefully I...
On the balance plug, the black wire is common and each of the other wires are positive for one of the cells. So if you have black, yellow and white, you measure black to yellow for one cell and black to white for the other.
Computer PSUs are a good source of high current 12V power. Pay attention to the detailed specs though, not just the watts. You want one with a single 12V rail, and you want that rail to be highly rated. Here's a PSU with a 25A 12V rail for under $30 with good customer reviews. When...
Have you verified the individual cell voltages at the balance plug with a different meter? If you're just going by what the charger says, it might be wrong. If one meter is saying the the total is 8.2, and the monitor is giving you individual readings that don't add up to that, then one of...
