Hello everyone,
I'm new on this forum and wish greet to all.
All Octane owners know that the battery box is very bad to handle, for this reason I want to share the improvements that I applied in my truck. Hope you enjoy the end result. Regards to all.(1).JPG (2).JPG (3).JPG (4).JPG (5).JPG (6).JPG (7).JPG (8).JPG (9).JPG (10).JPG

Welcome to the forum! Can you write up a synopsis of what you did and were trying to accomplish in these modifications?

Since I've never seen the inside of an octane battery box it simply looks like you reorganized it?

Hi HPISF Ghost,

What a pity, I do not have pictures of the box before I modifying it, but imagine that the batteries were loose in the background and the CDI was loose on top of batteries, only the receiver was fixed in a holder on top of batteries. All this shaking a lot in this box and when it was necessary to remove the batteries to recharge them, must be removed all out and replace again. What I did was set the CDI and the receiver on the bottom from box and install an acrylic plate to create a base where the batteries are housed, now to replace the batteries or take them to recharge is very simple, open the lid, disconnect the wires and remove them.

Great job! The factory battery box is nothing more than a rats nest. That is also one of my complaints about a truck that cost over $900. You would think for that kind of money they would have done a better design job. Hope it all works out well and your Octane runs as it should.

Thanks for showing us a good way to clean it up Martin Haas!

BTW HPISF Ghost is the title, X is the username. :)

Hi Jeepjunk94,

Now I'm starting to forget the hurts that this octane brought me.

I remember that:

1 - The engine will not start (I disassembled carburetor to review, adjust the needles of all possible ways and nothing, the engine only started when I close the gap of the spark plug to 0.3mm).
2 - After run with the truck the servos from throttle and steering is twitching.
3 - Broke the recoil spring (repaired)
4 - Broke a pin / screw that hold the second gear (changed)
5 - The engine does not start after warm (changed the ignition system) (stop the twitching from servos)
6 - Broke aluminum exhaust pipe (build a new in iron)
So far was only hehehe ...

It is just reorganized, but in a clever way. It should be like this from HPI imo.
You can see the bend on the spark plug cable (It gets even worse when you're trying to bend it with batteries beneath the CDI)
- wonder if that's what causing some of the problems with the CDI.

The bend doesn't look healthy - remember, the batteries is below the CDI, so you'll move and twist that bend each time you take the batteries out for charging.

There should not be any need to move the CDI each time you need to recharge.

Yeah I have had nothing but trouble out of mine same as you, I just keep sending it back.
They wont give me a refund like I asked so this time I am asking for a warranty credit, they keep the truck and credit me for what ever I want to buy from Hobbico.
I hope they go for it cause I am tired of getting it back, running it less than 2 tanks and another problem occurs or sometimes the same problem.
They really dropped the ball with the Octane, I also have the Savage 4.6 and its a great model but my Octane is junk.

Looks good what did you use to put on the coil wire for installation is this helping the twitching issue with the rig
Hello,
I used an old pen tube to prevent the coil cable being damaged with the battery weight.
I think that the servos twistings are caused because interference from ignition system, after I change the CDI the twitchings has stopped.

[QUOTE="do mean by you change the CSI box like got a new or a different one thanks let me know because my rig runs like a brick shithouse. Thanks for your reply at least one of these $900.00 plus paper weights are able to run decent and thenbring enjoyment and not be a great major waste and big disappointment that everyone has. All English teachers everywhere are gouging their eyes out after reading this. :banghead:

Thanks guy appreciated the commentary I type it fast from the mobile phone. But thanks for your cheese ball corny reply and the most important trying to be so cool one time maybe;)

Martin: It sounded like it should now, can't wait to finish my adjustments to try it out.

Btw: was that field in an incline obscured by the camera?
That girl used better part of a minute to cross it. I almost stepped in to give her a push. :)

Glad it worked out for you - hope it stays that way, and give you tons of fun.

I wasn't happy with the battery box layout so I rearranged it.I didn't like how the spark plug wire and the sensor were forced to exit thru the same gap so I drilled a small gap just for the sensor. I then positioned the cdi to exit straight out the opening so the spark plug wire is not all twisted . Sorry for not supplying before pic. image.jpg

Thanks Martin, I just rearranged my box similar to yours. Batteries on top... smacks forehead. Awesome!!! And the pic above, I never thought about using a cable sleeve on my plug wire. I did use heat shrink on my steering servo line (learned that lesson the hard way), but there are some very cool ideas here. Thanks guys.

@Doozer don't run the sparkplug lead over the cdi. The spark will ark between the cdi and the sparkplug lead. I found that out the hard way. That is where most of my problems with the starting and stalling came from.

Mark.... thank you for posting that my friend. I started having problems today after I reconfigured my box. Now I know why.... good lookin' out.

I am happy that my ideas have helped you improve your truck.
My octane works wonderfully after reorganizing the battery box.
Have you pics from the modification?
