What pipe was he running? The Picco is very pipe picky, and seems to run best with a 086 or similar. Given identical setups, the OS .30 may have a slight off the line advantage, but it quickly loses steam as RPM levels climb, while the Picco keeps on revving.
Romper: Paragraph breaks, man!
Yep, but not necessarily problems, just poor relative performance.
The ribbed pipe is a brilliant marketing strategy, it was designed with appearance and sound in mind to impress the n00bs. It doesn't work well on any engine, at any RPM range in my experience...
Picco clone or not, they are still amazing engines.
Anyway, aside from the Nova Rossi 28XRP, there is no stock engine that can run with a Picco P3 28. The stock Picco will outpower a modded LRP from bottom to top. The Picco is also a MUCH higher quality engine, using much harder and more...
I lost 3 pinion gears during the first 2 gallons on the truck due to lack of shimming. The crappy diff bearings let go at around the 8 gallon mark. I replaced them with HPI bearings, shimmed the diff assembly such that it was solid in the X bulkhead/gearbox, then shimmed the pinion until no...
Once you have the 6 internal diff gears housed in aluminum cups with steel pin/gear supports, and the ring/pinion gears shimmed correctly in X bulkless cases (Or GPM aluminum cases, but the one piece design of the X setup seems to be solid and eliminates most of the flex), the diffs are 99%...
In terms of engine performance, the torque curve tells all, not the HP curve. HP may be a fairly good comparison tool, but it is NOT useful in terms of evaluating acceleration throughout the RPM range. In this application, torque is essentially the rotational force applied to the drivetrain, and...
I've been wondering if HPI intentionally decreased the thickness of the arms at certain areas to increase their elasticity, which would reduce the force on the hinge pin area during violent impacts (For those of you who prefer practical physics, think about how a firearm recoil absorber absorbs...
ALL HPI pipes are complete crap. The polished pipe is good for making engines sound loud (And if it is louder, it MUST be more powerful!!!!!!!), and the ribbed pipe could possibly make a decent silicone gel mold for use in a certain non R/C related application, but otherwise, they are useless...
I'm impressed by this engine's mid range torque. Too bad they tested it with the crappy HPI polished pipe. A better tuned pipe should significantly decrease the torque drop off at high RPM.
The worst "upgrade" I have ever purchased would have to be the FullforceRC bearing kit. After a stock differential side bearing finally let go after 12 gallons of hard bashing, I purchased this kit for about 30 bucks, and replaced all of the bearings in the truck. After 1.5 gallons of fuel, I...
