i think everyone and myself need some clarifying on this topic. from my understanding the bulkheads are exactly the same excect a different material, is this correct? or is the bearing grooves bigger on the flux bulks?

Interesting, flux b/head 102272 $25, x/xl b/head 85235 $14
so whats the difference?

thats what we need to clarify. the flux is said to have stronger diff cases (which is supposed to limit the amount of flex) & that the bearing on

the ring-gear side is larger which is sweet. so, is the flux case different inside to accommodate the bigger bearing? also, is it made from a

different composite than the X/XL?

Well I've only got the flux so I don't know if it's different material to the the other savvy's. Both bearings are 16mm od, 8mm id on the gear and 10mm id on the cup here's a couple of pix.

Yes they say it's (The flux diff housing) made out of a better composite material and it does use a bigger bearing on the ring side but the internal case is the same size as all other savages. The bearing sizes are 10x16x5on one side and 8x16x5 on the other so the outer size is the same so you can use 4.6 and other savages diffs in this housing I hope this clears up any ?'s

So by association the Flux differential would drop into any Savvy bulkhead, as long as you use Flux bearings and drive cups?

I've got both the flux and xl manuals downloaded for part # references. On the flux, it uses 4 B085 8x16x5 bearings. That's two for the diff pinion and one on each side of the actual diff on the outdrives. The B085 bearing is the same part # and size as the bearing in all the other savages except for the XL. On the XL, it still uses the B085 bearings except for only it only uses two of them. And they go on the diff pinion. B032 10x16x5 bearing is the other bearing used in the XL diff, which is used on the actual diff on the out drives. The reason for the bigger bearing on the XL outdrive is because the XL outdrive is actually bigger. So to answer half of the question, yes the bulks are interchangeable between all savage models, it all depends on what type of diffs you are usings to determine the bearings needed. It will be the same for the diff pinion in all cases and different on the diff outdrives. B085 for all outdrives except the XL. B032 for the XL outdrives. I haven't looked up the size of the bearing if your using cen diffs, which if I remember correctly, is different. I'll post up later once I find that info out.

To answer the question in regards to the material used to make the bulks being different, I haven't the slightest idea.

cen's use the same b085 bearings, those bearing are the same bearings used in the wheel hubs.

XL diffs are no different than X other than the machined ring gear. I just put two XL's in my savage and sold my cens...

yup thats right the ring and pinions are just machined. same bearing size as all other models except the flux.

the flux is the only one thats different.
the flux case is the same as the x and xl case its just a stiffer material.
the difference in the flux is the ring gear, the race where the bearing slides on it machined smaller so a "bigger" bearing will fit the bearing is the same size as all the other on the outside but the inside is smaller therefore allowing a bigger ball in it. its not technically bigger. the "BIGGER" bearing or b085 is the same as your wheel hub bearings and also the same bearing used on the cen diffs.
