Hello guys wondering if someone might be able to help me out on this one. I'm trying to find out how much such I set the Idle gap on the carb. I know there is no optimum setting but is there a base setting like .5mm or 1.00mm? I purchased a small set of pin/plug gauges to help me figure out where I am with the Idle gap.

also depends on your clutch setup, i have heavier springs and i like a higher idle so i have mine set larger than 1mm but jer is right in saying 1mm is fine

yea dude, start with 1mm, then make sure she doesnt stall at full brake or roll forward when idling & your in great shape 😛eace:

Thank you guys for all the help. I'll let everyone know how the gauges work.

OK here they are. The gauges are very basic. You don't need to buy the handle for them. The only thing is it's going to make it easy to inspect the gap with the handle. The other thing that sucks is you need to buy a handle for each gauge, they are not interchangable. Hope this helps. I hope I added the attachment correctly.

pretty kool tools; prob a bit pricey for what i would use them 4 :resp: were you able to get the gap correct using the guage? solve your idle problem?

No I have not ordered the gauges as of yet. But as soon as I do I'll let you know how it goes.

I wouldn't waste your money on the gauges. You only need to set the gap to approximately 1mm. Once you've done the rest of the tuning you just alter the idle speed to suit. Every engine is slightly different, so there is no real set measurement.

Ya I guess your right. The gauges are not that expensive. I thought they might help me to see where I am with the idle gap.

Just take a look at a tape measure to see what a milimeter looks like, then look at the gap in your carb slide and compare it. That's as accurate as you need to be. The figures they give you in the manual are just to get you in the ball park. Also please bare in mind that any thing that is poked into the carb, has the potential to damage things (like the LSN seat for instance).

Not a good idea ! IMO
