buy the saftey charging bag with the battery. the lipos give more power and longer run times but are way more dangerous compared to NiMH or nicked cadmimum. if you overcharge them they do explode violently.

I have done lots of research on LiPo packs a little while back. I'm my personal opinion I would get the SMC Hard packs for close to the same price. Those packs do look decent thought.

Here is the SMC website http://www.smc-racing.com/products.html Our very own member Snuffleupagus (Bryan) https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/member.php?u=2896 I believe is the owner.

As far as dangerous they are more dangerous but arnt bad at all if taken care of properly. If you are using the charger you purchased you will have no issues at all. The bag is a great idea but is not needed. I have several vehicles with Lipos including the hump pack in my Savage and CRT and never take them out to charge as I change them in there place.

The only way they get dangerous is when they are punctured or over charge and split the pack. Something inside them reacts big time when air gets to it. hence the reason i'd go with a hard pack.

some great info right there !

Great advice Larsen.

The batteries that I am using for my 8ight-E 2.0 are Thunder Power 5S 5000mah Batteries. So far I have been able to charge them at a higher C rating then other batteries I have used or know people that have used. I am able to hit them at 7 Amps and not worry about them going off. The only downside is that there are $360 retail each. Of corse if you are getting a flux you would get two 3S or two 3S batteries so the cost would be cheaper.

Here is a link the batt I am running:

I have heard some good things about the Hyperion EOS 0606i charger. The only thing I dislike about them is the power supply is built in I believe, so if the power supply goes, the whole charger is most likely done to. But the down side of having a separate power supply is of corse the size and weight. I am using a Thunder Power THP610 with a OFNA 10 amp power supply. Links of my setup at the bottom.

The batteries that I would go with the Savage Flux are the following batteries.

http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/extreme-V2.html

They offer different mah ratings, and different amount of cells. So for the flux you would go with two 2S or two 3S. Of corse the 3S are more powerful.

These batteries are pretty much top of the line and come with a price tag that follows. Let me know if you need a cheaper setup.

At least with the flux they have cases for the Packs to mount in, which will protect them against puncture. This allows you to go to a soft pack which are much cheaper. There are lots of packs out there that are good in soft packs.

From what I have heard is this motor may have to much power for this truck if running full out 6 (3+3) cell LiPo's at full tilt on the ECS. The great feature you have here is you just need the Castle Link or whatever HPI will call it and the ECS is completely tunable, more than you can imagine.

Personally 2 2S packs with a high mAh rating will be the best set up and if thats not enough at some point you can get a set of 3S packs and give here the woods. I would think on a 2S pack and the ECS on full tilt this truck will hit +45MPH with wheelies on demand with the correct gearing and good packs.

You will need packs that have a higher ratting than 25C the higher the better. This number can be scued by some company's who are the cheaper manufacturers. Personally stay with the name brand stuff, you will pay more but get a much better pack in the end. I guess my moto is Spend once big and don't buy again!

As of right now we have 24C, 28C, and our just this week available 40C packs. With the introduction of our new 40C packs we will discontinue the 28C packs as the 40C are our new "Race" packs. Def. go with a hardcase LiPo no matter what brand you buy. Softcase are a very bad idea in a monster truck. LiPo's don't explode, they puff/swell or they will catch on fire. NiMH will blow up or vent. Both are dangerous and both are safe. It all comes down to the user. For chargers I would recommend the Hyperion line. We use their EOS0610i Duo's and we have had great success and virtually issue free use for several months now.

Good Luck and Happy Bashing,

Please see the post I just made in the No Limit R/C @ the Dungeon thread. I guess some people can't appreciate a good thing.

Apologies,

Bryan @ SMC
