Hey everyone,

I have a savage 25....everything is bone stock...I've been having problems starting the truck....ill just be sitting there with my power drill ( just as fast as the rotostart).....and just cranking the engine and it just doesnt want to catch....it'll "put put" quite a few times and then just out of the blue it'll start...my friends savage turns over right away.....I don't know what is wrong with mine....there is a new glow plug in it...and my ignighter works perfectly fine.

Anything advice?

Thanks.

The one-way is probably shot, you will have to replace it, but you can also try and heat the block of the engine. Putting heat to the block will sometimes help the one-way grab a little better, it will also help the engine start if it "does" turn over.

the one way is fine....the engine cranks....I'm just sitting there with it turning....then itlll catch sometimes randomely.....then one fluke time it will run.....it idles fine....the low speed needle needs some adjusting but other than that once its running its fine....starting is a pain though.

Hello Blue;
.
it was a little confusing when you said that sometimes the mill would "catch" because it would indicate a bad OWB if you cranked your drill but the engine wouldn't 'catch.' Here are a couple things to try:
.
I had the same problem with my X before i mid-tanked it. Here is my $.02
1. Stop using the drill to crank- if your mill doesn't start after a few turns, then you have another problem to address & drill-cranking will either smoke your OWB or damage your mill if it gets flooded.
2. Turn up your throttle trim on your Tx- then when it starts, turn it back down to normal position.
3. Lean your HSN a bit- you mentioned adjusting your LSN which you cant adjust properly without adjusting your HSN first.
4. double check your glow plug & ig- take the plug out of the mill & put it into your glow ig......make sure it glows hot. ive seen a faulty glow plug come right out of the packaging.
5. Throttle Adjust-make sure that your throttle opening is adjusted to 1mm opening like it says in your manual.
.
Hope this helps you out bro....let us know how you make out...

great advice my friend!!!!!

hey guys

I got it!....and the solution made me thuink "huh?"....I've had this problem ever since i changed to fuel lines to a wider diameter fuel line (to be honest it was traxxas fuel hose)...when i changed my fuel lines back to the thinner HPI lines...the fuel pumped through the lines better...and now it starts up right away!......weird huh?

Thanks for all your help and frddyj....I did do all your trouble shooting as well so all that typing in your post wasn't in vein.

Now just to figure out why my 25 isnt popping wheelies.

Larger fuel lines shouldn't have had an effect on it. The type of fuel does make a difference. There are some fuels out there (most notably Traxxas) that have too much oil in it and can cause the OWB to slip.

Anyway, just thought I throw that in, glad you got it fixed regardless.

it's true the lines shouldnt effect it.....but when priming...the traxxas fuel line took a long time to prime....the fuel just wouldnt move through the fuel line....the traxxas fuel line....3 turns of the engine and it flows right to the carb.....its really weird and your right it really shouldnt matter....thats why i was weirded out by the whole thing.

You shouldn't crank the engine to prime it self, take the line off the pipe and blow into it until the fuel hits the carb and then just a "tiny" bit more to put some fuel into the engine. Then it is ready to start with fresh fuel and lube as well. Cranking a cold engine to prime it is just hard on the engine.

This is how I start my engine.

+2 on this method of engine priming!

makes alot of sense...... see i just learned something new. i've always just plugged the exhaust but turning over a "dry" engine must shorten its life span to some degree so thanks for the thought guys!!!!!!

I too am having starting issues, mine is a standard, except for the radio box upgrade.

I have flattend one roto start battery (3300mah), it turns over ok, it just won't start!!! The longer I try to start it the more "rattley" it sounds???

I'm using 20% fuel, and the glowplug looks ok, gets nice and hot/glow's etc.. One thing I do know is that it hasn't been run for quite a long time. I reset the carb to factory as well, still no joy????!!!!
