hello,

just trying to find out what type of fuel most people are running just finished
breakin savage 4.6 on blue thunder 1st run any suggests please.

thank you

Here in Romania, where I have bought my truck (Savage X4.6) the seller recommended me that first I should use a flight fuel, so he gave me Tornado 10% flight (to have better lubrication etc..). After breaking in and using around 1 gallon and setting the motor, now I switched to Morgan Sidewinder 16% (this is what I found).

So, there are 2 questions:

1. If the percentage of nitro is inscreased, how do I adjust the high-speed and low-speed needles? Do I need to richen or to lean a bit the mixture?

(Because I've read that the higher the nitro, the motor is running richen with the same settings - or I just understanded ir wrong).

2. If I do not look for performances, can I stick in the future with the 16%, or it would be best to use 20% or 25% (that's it if I could find...) Will the motor last longer with 16% than with 20-25%?
Thanks

Personally I think 16% is ok and most likely wont do any damage, but I would go to 20% - 30% if you can find it. You are missing out on power and the life of the motor will be good if you tune the engine properly. And again personally, I don't really like the idea of one of the guys at your hobby shop told you to use air plane fuel for break in. You should always use the fuel you plan to run for break in. And I would never run air plane fuel at all. The reason why is because the engines are used in different ways, plane engine run at WOT or close to for long periods of time and the engine is cooled by the prop of the plan blowing air at the engine. While car engine are running at WOT for short periods of time compared to airplanes and accelerate and decelerate a lot more frequent.

top fuel 33% its $32 a gallon, and going up...once this gallon is empty I'm gonna try o'donnell 30% for $26 a gallon.

Yeah, I know, but I met with 2 different guys at 2 different stores before I bought my Savaga and they both told the same thing: that is best to use airplane fuel for breakin because it has more oil to lubricate...

PS. And at that time I didn't know about HPI SAVAGA FORUM 😀

Newbie first post here, my first RC ever, Savage X 4.6 just broke it in last weekend on Byron Race Gen 2 20% w/16% oil.

Everything was puuurfect! I did run a bit hotter plug as a throw away after the breakin but it was clean as a whistle so it is still in. Thing runs crazy fast and it will do back flips if i gun it already running 1/2 throttle.

Don't know how much the fuel had to do with it but it was a piece of cake to tune with quite a wide window.

GBH52 very good fuel! But check the oil again for me. ? ! To my knowledge its 11 or 9 Oil... and 9 is on the 30% I want to know if you got something I don't know about. I run 20 25 and 30% gen 2 in 3 different mills. Love the stuff.

Keep in mind if you guys step down on the Nitro %. Up is fine. You wont get the same performance as a guy who always ran the same % So 20 to 30 is fine but 30 to 20 will run like 10-15. :resp:

HPI does not recommend running under 20 in their mills. Just a fact for the thread.

Just check the label and it is clearly marked 20% nitro/16% oil. I was doing a bit of research prior to firing it up and I'm sure at the Byron site they tell this is a blend of 4% castor/12% synthetic if I recall correctly.

I wanted a mid range on both nitro and oil and this seemed perfect. So far it has been. 10 tanks no issues at all.

Top fuels
Odonnells
Byrons
Trinity
Sidewinder

Good fuels
Nitrotane
Traxxas
HPI

Garbage
Blue thunder
White lightning

I like Odonnells 30% race. You cant go wrong with any of the first group. They are all top quality. Its really a personal preference or availability choice to make.

Bank- gbh is correct. Bryon has a RTR 20% Nitro that is i believe only in quarts for breaking in mills that has 16% oil content. You are correct on the rest of the fuels thought.

See the quarts at the bottom of the page and look for RTR in the part number: http://www.byronfuels.com/pages/products.html

is backyard basher and sidewinder the same , i have been using backyard basher 20% for years use it in both my savys and used it in both of my mt's

Yep just the # seamed high to me. I run the 11% and have tried the 9 as well. Most of my mills have internal 1 ways. I'm all set with that much oil! :resp:

Thanks for the replies!!!

Byron 20%

Just an fyi, the lhs only had 1/2 an 1 gallon containers. No mention anywhere this was intended as a breakin fuel. Just about through the first gallon. Everything continues to be just fine, as far as a newbie can tell.
