My Savage has developed a strange "Clicking" noise when I apply the brakes... the braking seems to have also Faded when it does this.

i have visually inspected everything I can see without taking it appart and can not see anything wrong.

So my question is... what did I brake?

You broke your 13 tooth pinion gear in your diff

probably missing 2 or 3 teeth .. new diff time this is were shimming WILL help

This is a definite diagnosis as Jester is THE

I was thinking about buying a complete diff off e-bay... it looks cheaper to just buy a NEW already built with EVERYTHING to include the case then it is to buy the specific part + bearings... Heck I could get the FRONT & REAR cases with Diffs for less then I can get a new Differential + bearings alone.

I will shop around, I still need to find what pinion went bad... Is there a quicker way to isolate which one is bad without taking them both apart?

he used to be the local diff stripper. legend has it, that he could strip out a savage with cen diffs.

I don't think he's done that yet, I could be wrong though. But, I'm sure if he did, that'd be the first thing he would do when he got home, is to start a thread about it or add it to his damage report thread.

AIR Ram, listen to Jester, he knows what he's talking about. He's had to rebuild diffs so many times, he could probably do with one hand tied behind his back with both eyes closed. LOL, Just messin with you Jester.

Agree with Jester, has to be the front diff. I just stripped mine out yesterday. I recently upgraded to the stainless steel brakes and had them set to tight because all of a sudden I was doing stoppies (very bad). Started to hear the clicking but could not tell from where. Came off a jump, planted the nose in the ground, and my front pinion went from a 13 tooth, to about an 8 1/2 tooth, with the rest of the pieces all over the place.
