Hi!

After a hiatus of 10 or even more years, I recently bought a bunch of RC cars. When a brand new Savage X xwas listed with a discount of more than 60% I didn't hesitate and just bought it.

With a bit of digging through old stuff I also found my old Savage Flux! One of the things I upgraded on my old Savage Flux back in the day were the shocks. I think they're Innovative-RC Big Bore set. I browsed their website but couldn't find big bore shocks for the Savage. I guess the model is too old and they no longer have upgrade parts for it.

What would be a good option nowadays to upgrade the shocks? If there is a model with the same color orange anodized that would be even better 😀

@Vinni , yes your correct they are Losi LST/LST2/LST XXL shocks fitted using the I-RC Savage kit. I have a set on one of my Savages, Infact it's got a complete I-RC LCG conversion. These Losi shocks are unique in there size and only came in Black (standard), Yellow (stiffer), & White (med/soft). If you google the spring outer diameter it states them as being 25mm when infact they are 35mm. No other RC That I now of uses shocks of this size so springs colours are limited, you could repaint them using a brand of nitro fuel resistant like Core-RC or Tamiya PS range both do shades of Orange.
It's worth holding on to them as Robert at I-RC seems to have stopped doing mod kits for the Savage. He is still around as I see his posts on Facebook but think he has moved to the States now as all post come from there. If you try to contact him through his site good luck, he just doesn't respond. Bought my setup off him back in late 2022 and it was a nightmare contacting him back then. Which is a real shame as his products were and still are great.

Nice 1 bro I’d love to do that mod they look sick as ha add a feeling you’d have done it 👍👊

@Vinni
Yer bro, if there is a mod to be made to a standard model I just love to give it a go. Why do standard when you can do different. That what makes my models special to me . I love to push the envelope as they say. Although I have 13 Savages, everyone of them is different in there own way. I also love to collect all the discontinued rare parts for them. Like the safety engine stop system HPI #85068, been discontinued for years but I have managed to obtain 7 of these units now. Another one is the old style Savage primer fuel tanks. Hard to find a good one with working primer these days but if you want something original as it was in the day they are must have parts. The 1st Savages came with these and I have 3 all looking new and with working primers. Told you I was an Anorak about my models.

got 2 sets of those IRC shocks and they are very pricey. the one with the black coated shafts aren't that smooth. here a pic comparing them to other shocks.

Yer it is mate, Not certain but keep seeing posts on Facebook at varies tracks in the States. I still check his site from time to time as there is more stuff I would like from him, like another set of Losi mounts for the Savage as have like @rebelnitro I have a spare set of these shocks. I want the kit for fitting to the old version 1 lower wishbones. But as you can remember, he was alway hard to get that initial reply from when emailing him.

No mate on the shocks but have got a set of ZD Racing big bores in the post from AliExpress. Titan silver with white springs. They do the same in orange but with white spring although I think would be a little short for the Savage. These are 130mm hole to hole and I seem to remember the Savage big bores are 165mm.

As for Robinson Racing Spurs & Clutch bells I have never used them. People do seem to swear by them but seeing as I've never tried um I don't know.

Was thinking of putting them on Carson and use the ones off the Carson on the XT2 as the rears on it are a little short.
As for spurs & bells in the 20 odd years I've had Savages have ever only spreaded 2 plastic spurs and shagged a steel one due to the mesh not being quite right and the mill was a bit off line. I do prefer to run plastic ones as with the poop hits the fan, I would rather strip the spur than have to go inside the gearbox for repair. At the end of the day if your going to play hard then it's likely your going to break something.
That just my thinking on it anyway, sure there will be peps that disagree. Some will say thats what the slipper clutch is for but as anyone who runs a Savage that ain't running a slipper eliminator, you have to have them wound up so tight that they do nothing other than wear the slipper pad out in mega quick time.

Hey Vinni,
I've used Robinson clutch-bells and spurs for years on both Savages and Revos - good products.
Having said that, like Gazzman, I have no problems using plastic spur gears either, although I have had to replace more spurs than he has.
My buddy's property has stones and rocks that have a way of getting into the gearing and gumming up the works and shredding even hardened steel.
