I am looking for a good replacement for the Lrp platinum iridium r5 plug that comes stock in a .32 spec 4.

I have heard there are significant differences in r5 plugs depending on the manufacturer. I’ve been considering a medium hot plug based on application and environment but not knowing the “differences” in manufacturing I’ve been hesitant to order any.

Not sure if they are still being made or not, but McCoy plugs were my go to for me. The GP in my motor now is close to 10 yrs old with maybe only a 1/2 gal on it. Still works.

Since I had my motor lightly modded and runnin 30% nitro, McCoy MC9 cold plug is what my motor ran best with. I think I still have 1 new one.

I’ve always used 20% for no other reason than it was what my .25 savage from way back ran on. Should I be using 30%? I’m confident I can tune for it but I just keep buying 20%.

lol I have no doubt you can tune for 30% lol. I started running it when I switched to a LRP motor and big 4” trenchers. I still had temps in the very low 200’s beating the piss out of it. Just feels snappier and faster and there’s no good hobby shops within an hour of me and I had a gallon of 30% still. Ideally, I’d like to try byrons 25% cause the oil content is higher than the VP 30%. I just can’t find Byron around me anymore.

You can buy cases (4 gallons) of Byron's fuel from AMainHobbies.com and have them shipped. For me to buy case of 30% Gen2 race fuel and have it shipped from CA to FL is $216. $180 for the fuel & $37 for haz mat shipping charge. Best fuel I have ever ran.

I’ve heard once you break on in on a certain % you shouldn’t change. I’ve also never questioned that lol.

You can change % fuel after you break in a motor. I switched from 20% to 30% without issues. You just run it rich for a tank then retune it. Also have to switch to a cold glow plug.

Would I have to adjust head shims?

Best way to answer that is to consult the instructions that came with the motor. Some you do and some you don't.

I have and it does recommend a shim change going from 20-30 %.
