Hi I'm new to the rc world and looking for a bit of help/advice,I have recently purchased a hpi savage x 4.6.car has been working great till I last went out and car is struggling to steer?,it makes the noises as it tries to but just turns a tiny bit or not atall? ,I have had a look there doesn’t seem to be anything stuck in the steering all battery’s were charged to.
Thanks tom

More than likely the stock servo has failed. Mine did the same thing back in the day when it went out. But of course it could’ve been due to the fact of the truck cartwheeling down the road at 40 mph lol.

Hi

Your servo may have striped a gear.
I was wondering if that was the issue, but if you turn the wheel and do it again and again it will turn a tiny bit at a time if that makes sense?.like I say I’m new to this so it’s all well over my head at the minute lol what’s best way to check if this is the issue? Thanks tom ?

If you pick the truck up, does the steering work? Your steering bell crank may be loose and need tightening.

If you pick the truck up still seems to struggle ? Ok what is the steering bell crank and is it hard to tighten it up thanks

It is this assembly. You tighten the nut under the spring.

But if you pick it up and it still doesn't want to turn, you likely either stripped the servo horn/ gear teeth or damaged something inside the servo.

I usually just poke at it with a screw driver. Can usually get 1/4-1/2 turn at a time that way. Easier if you remove the front right tire to get at the servo saver nut.

Ok cheers that’s great I’ll give that a go thanks for the help guys I’ll let you know how I get on thanks

So I tried tightening up the steering bell crank and that still didn’t seem to help,I took the piece of that goes onto the steering servo and didn’t seem to be missing any teeth on the servo? Any other ideas guys ?

Any chance you can take a video of it and post it up?

You said you took the servo arm off, were you able to steer the wheels back and forth fully by hand without any resistance or catching? If so, then odds are, your servo may be dying/dead.

Make a youtube account, upload it, share the link to it here.

Can you try what I mentioned, if you haven't? Take the servo arm off, steer the wheels back and forth fully by hand to check for resistance or catching of some sort.

while you have the servo arm off power up the radio system and steer the wheels a couple times while listening for grinding sounds from the servo......

Also try making sure there isn't a control on your transmutter reducing the operation of the servo.....
