Hi
will be using oven cleaner to remove the anodize from the driveshaft, but what is best to use to protect the metal once i have de-anodize from rust / corrosion etc.

people say use oven cleaner to de-anodize then to polish, polish with what ? and does this protect the metal ?

Thanks

From this to this
Using mr muscle sink and drain unblocker

I guess it’s gone dark patch because it’s devolved the paint

Any ideas how to make it shiny silver ? Or is it a matter of spraying it 305D5D3D-242D-454A-8B1D-8AAAAF293190.jpeg

you can polish bare aluminum with any number of polishing agents, Brasso, Mothers aluminum polish or others usually available at home stores or auto parts stores... be aware you will be hand polishing and it is going to take a bit of elbow grease to accomplish... and it will need to be maintained to retain its polished look.....

Most of it has turned out pretty good
Bare aluminium looks pretty decent - wasn’t looking for chrome look to be honest this is sweet.

Understand regarding polishing,
Anything I can coat the parts with something so it protects it from rust / corrosion ?

Not done the dog bones yet but noticed couple of them are rusted ! Thought these were heavy duty anodised from hpi ?

Time to polish the aluminium and steel parts...
Couldn’t decide which polish to use so bought these 2...

Any ideas which is better??
Both do aluminium, steel, silver
Anyone have experience with either of them ?

Hi

As for the black steel parts, you could try using muriatic acid to remove the rust inhibiting coating so you can polish them and then spray them with Royal Purple after polishing for inhibiting rust.

I polished a crankshaft using polishing compound and my dremel with a polishing felt on it......

took awhile but it did come out sweet, point is you can do it if you apply yourself to itDSCN5599.JPGDSCN5601.JPGDSCN5602.JPG

Nice

My aluminium bits have come out very good but my steel bits not so,

Oven cleaner and also drain in blocker did not work on the dog bones and also the turnbuckles ?
Is it because it is steel and not aluminium ?
Any way I sanded them down by hand , then used steel wool then polished it with the cream, then polished it again with the liquid but they are not perfect, still has blotches / patches of mark on the steel ,
Today I sanded it down again by hand , used steel wool, and polished it again with both polish but still no improvement !

you need to use some kind of power polishing tool , I used my dremel and that crank was black and nasty, look how it turned out....even a drill with a polishing pad would work, takes time and effort to get there but well worth it in the end...

also be aware some parts are made out of black steel and just will not polish up to a shiny luster no matter how you try.....
