As of yesterday I started searching online for new mills for my savage. All I could find was Dynamite and SH branded engines on Amain and Tower hobbies and the like. All the prestigious brands of .28 engines like Picco and LRP are now discontinued. I guess the market has really swayed towards brushless electric motors. I don't have a local hobby shop anymore so I don't have a local of a selection of engines or the option to buy fuel locally, bummer. :ercm:

PS what's up y'all? It's been a while!

The fuel not being available sucks. The place I used to get my fuel at was 15 minutes from my work, which is an hour from my house. I'd run there a couple times over the summer and buy a couple gallons. Luckily, I can still buy the fuel I like at another store, but it's 30+ minutes from my work and over an hour from my home. Still, better than paying shipping for fuel. I kind of went electric anyway, still have a full gallon from last year and half of another.

I noticed the same thing with engines over the past 5 years. Slim pickings for a basher. I have an LRP28S3 in my big block revo and an LRP30S2 in my savage X. I have another LRP28S3 in a drawer that was in my savage, but was giving me issues. Pretty sure the issues were due to the fuel tank because even with the new 30, it had the same issues too. I also have a NIB Picco 28 P3 I bought many years ago to replace an LRP in my aftershock/lst, but the LRP never died and I sold the truck. Just kept the engine in a drawer.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! I figured something had to happen financially for some of these companies to just disappear for a while. LRP was pretty dang popular though, I'm surprised. I'll have to stash some money away to invest in an engine or somehow fix my STS D28M.

Wow, I figured I was one of the only ones holding onto an STS engine. I have a D30M RB modded, so much potential....sadly my Z.28 LRP is a much better engine.

Nitro was all that mattered in the day of the savage and any true competition from "different brands" in the hobby industry, Now nitro is just too complicated for the latest gen of rc users. If they cant use a smart phone to tune the ESC they write a bad review o_O

Really anything not traxxas is to advanced for 90 percent of people these days :banghead:

Yep I find that most all the "new breed" of hobbyists are just a bunch of spoiled little kids and all they know is electric brushless stuff, I took a nitro truck out to one of the group meets and everyone was mystified how fast and loud my MMT was compared to their puny lil traxxas trucks.......
I even had the chance to run over a slash that thought he was fast enough to get in my way and survive :lmao:

And the older Kid said x-maxx is the best and only rc, it can even drive on water, i said cool, what about losi or kyosho i got a few of those, kid said "never heard of them who makes it", haha, ok what about a savage kid "I think my uncle had one like before i was born, it ran on gas and stuff", Oh cool ya i got a few of those too, kid ya savage isnt making many new rtr's, Me you mean HPI kid whats hpi ?

Kid jumped his slash one more time its getting slower and slower for a long time now, Me I think your motor is burning up, kid ya it smells kinda funny like that for a while, me you might need a new can kid "whats a can, The motor kid i want a velinum 8s", but then again my dad is getting me a new traxxas for my b day, did you see the waterpark video on face book page

Bahaha see ya later kid kid kicks truck back home, and plugs in the wall charger

Really, its not just newbs fault, but thats what you see when people use only social media for info. lhs are not much better, most should be called a "traxxas shop" how they only push one brand. I talked to many brainwashed kids and adults like the one above

That conversation would be painful for me to handle. Especially if he’s at least 16. I knew everything when I was young in this hobby back in like 2006. I was always searching online and looking at forums.

I know what you mean, but it still made me chuckle a little bit. We all knew everything when we were 16. ;)

Been bashing since I was 23. Just started running electric a year and a half ago. Was nitro only until then. 19 years of running RC's and I still learn things!

I mean I knew stuff beyond traxxas cars. I’ve resented traxxas from the very beginning though. Been a Savage fanboy for life :guitarplay:

had a chuckle reading this post so thought i'd chip in.. I've had HPI Savages for over 15 years and my Kyosho Suprten FW03 is approaching 25.. My XL basher started off as an SS .25 Kit and has gone through most upgrades to the XL platform, my Savage Twinzilla has been on and off the shelf playing second fiddle to upgrades, It still has the original HotBodies Powerhouse .26 mills (but after losing a piston / liner a few years back during a house move it has sat on the shelf waiting for me to spend money on it).... In the UK we had the usual HPI branded stuff as well as Force and Nosram engines, I opted for the Nosram Monster Evo .28 on the basher for approx 3 years before running into issues with the rotostart backplates. Now I run a 9 port SH .28 with pull start and it is as good as if not better than the Monster Evo.

Anyway, enough rambling.. Nosram / LRP / SH / Dynamite all come from the same production line but they are finished off to the different client requirements / standards. I've posted some pics of what I have. Compare the head designs on the SH and the Nosram and have a look at some pics of the Dynamite and LRP's.. the heads are milled to different patterns but the crank cases all have the same internal dimensions and general outer castings.

IMHO if you can find a red top (9 port) SH28 grab it..

As for the X Maxx... hell yes I bash with a few guys that have them and they are what I would call the modern day savage, think of when HPI released the Savage Flux... standing backflips on 4s LiPo, well the X Maxx needs 6 or 8 to do that... the E-Revo 2.0 is also pretty capable too.. The market today is pretty much HobbyKing and Traxxas as the main contenders but I too am a bit of a Savage fanboy so instead of getting an X Maxx i bought a second hand HPI Super 5SC...

Glue sniffer lol. Brings back memories. Check out novarossi usa as well. The 28 8 port is a power house with pull or roto start and theyre fairly cheap now.

I had to part with my sts too. Rod and one way. Parts are hard to find.

Lrp 32 is a great motor if you have a nova carb. Stock carb is touchy.

I got an LRP .28Z Spec 3 engine. It's been giving me issues and I haven't run it for a while.

I am aware SH engine is the same. Could someone point me to the exact same SH engine (as I can see there is a vareity of .28 from SH) to buy and replace my .28? The LRP engine is still good. Runs well (if i am able to start it). I will just keep this as a spare for my new engine.

Haha what's up man? long time no see. I still have those wood TVPs somewhere! Never thought I'd see an affordable Novarossi, I'll look into it.

To an extent, I’m a most recent gen rc’er(14, so essentially a newer gen) and all I have is nitros, I got a savage a Tmaxx a jato a 8ight t a ten t, among some other misc nitros, I only have 2 real electrics, sure nitro is complicated sometimes, but there is just nothing like it, plus I like working with my hands you definitely don’t do that as much with nitro.

I swear I spend more time on forums like this(and nitro forums) then I do on my school work, imo there is always more to learn, so why not, ya know?
