Hey Everyone, I have an old HPI Savage Truck with the .21/3.5 BB engine. The bad news is that is was improperly stored years ago and the engine is now seized and it's a Discontinued one on top of that. So my question is can I remove the 3.5 and replace it with either the F4.6 or the K4.6 Engine? I know it's bigger as far as displacement is concerned by will it bolt up to the stock location on the Truck?

Thanks in Advance for your Time, Help and expertise!

You might be able to save the .21. A little marvel mystery oil, and a heat gun could loosen it up. Did this to my HPI .25 last night. Going to try running it tonight.

Yeah, I actually already got it freed up. I almost got it started and I think the pull starter broke, all of a sudden no resistance at all. So the road back is going to be a bit bumpy.

does the pull start recoil? i have that same motor it was stuck i tore it down cleaned it and it runs great, the one way bearing was dirty and kept it from turning the motor.after a good cleaning it works good.

I got it started! It wasn't the one-way bearing, yes it did recoil the entire time. It had something to do with the mechanism inside that actuality engages the pull starter to the crank. After pulling it apart several times and cleaning it I finally figured out that when it would stop working I could rotate the flywheel backwards a bit and then it would work again. Once I got it running and ran it through the third of a tank I'd put in for testing, the pull starter works like a champ again. Now I just need to re-install all the electronics and tune it better as it seems to be running rich, if I rev it up a bit it stalls. But baby steps, the simple fact it started is awesome! Thank you all for your advice, it is much appreciated.

Right on love it when things start to work

Grats on getting it goin.

As for your original question.

Usually a hpi engine new is more costly then to just buy an upgrade.

Specially with the ability to look pick and choose online.

Tend to go on with little to know problems.
