There was a guy that made a dyno for these things and they tracked every engine they tested on that dyno. It showed the power curve and a calculated max hp.
It's an old list: https://www.hpisavageforum.com/threads/engine-hp-x-dyno.561/

It would be nice if there was a standard that all companies followed so you could at least see how engine A compares with engine B. As it is, without buying at least one engine from each manufacturer and running each yourself, you have no real idea how they compare to each other.

All I know are the engines I've owned. For big blocks this is what I've had in the order of "power" I experienced:
OS 21RG - had 3 or 4 of them, ran in big block max, big block revo, savage and 1/8th buggies. Very weak compared to the engines of today
Omega/Picco 21 Comp - was good for a while, but became untuneable. Got "sold" on it by my LHS when I was newer to the hobby.
Hot bodies Powerhouse 26 - ran great for a buddy of mine in a bb-maxx
XTM 24.7 - had a few of these in various trucks, not long lasting, but easy to tune and break-in.
Axial 28 v1 - had one, lasted a gallon, then was untuneable, hated it, sold it for parts.
Losi M26SS - came in my aftershock. Great engine for the money, a tad weak for the LST platform, lasts 5-6 gallons before needing repinch
Dynamite Mach 247 - in a couple buddies LST2's. great engine, lasts 5-6 gallons before needing repinch
LRP28S3 - have had 5, one was fickle even after a gallon. The other 4 were annoying until about a gallon was through them, then they were great. Very thirsty though.
LRP30X S1 - was in one of my buddies LST2 after seeing it compare to my LRP28S3. he bought all the parts to make it pull-start... not sure why he didn't just buy a pull-start version.
LRP30S2 - have currently in my savage. Has more torque the the LRP28S3 it replaced, but doesn't rev as high. Very annoying break-in. Have about a gallon or so through it now and is still a little fussy to tune.

Holy crap....you got way more experience than me lol...ive had a few of these over the years and really enjoy them, it's only so much fun by yourself ya know...i got my boy one last week and will be here tomorrow...hes only 8 so I got him a small cheap redcat racing volcano...i can help him make it better as he breaks it...but I've had a team associated gt10 years ago, a duratrax nitro evader, a ofna buggy, and a couple more...had a few helicopters and now this savage...the little experience I do have is..always get 4x4/awd...2wd just too darn hard to control....but the gt10 actually wasn't too bad...and buying them used seems to be better for me...not just the price but it makes it easier to make your own...

I've had quite a few over the past 18 years. Not as many as some though. Typically, I have 6-8 rigs on the shelf. I started running electric almost a year ago. Been nitro only up until then. I now have 4 electric rigs and 3 nitro, if I don't count my 2 mini/micro trucks and micro heli...

the sound of a nitro is awesome...lol VERY TRUE!!! you 4got to mention the SMELL OF NITRO!!! that is AWESOME too!!!
Try odonnels fuel. Smells like burnt gun powder when you run it. Although, I've found byrons runs the best for me. Trinity MHP fuels burned my eyes back in the day. Burned well though.
