Please help. I am trying to sell a Savage X for my friends 12 year old son. He got it from his older brother and would rather have the money to put into his Traxxas Slash. The car hasn't been run in 5 years. I tried to get it going with the rotostart and it was popping before it stopped rotating. The rotostart does not have a charger but does hold a charge. We used a charger from an airsoft. The servos and controller work. Everything is there but the body. Can anyone tell me what it is worth as if it had no engine? Thank you in advance.

It also has a glow plug igniter, new glow plug, tire wrench and a fuel bottle if any of that matters.

Ithe savage is the better vehicle by far, takes way more abuse, but a nitro may not be good for a kid. depending on the shape and motor, maybe 150 ish maybe a little more. basically its worth what it sells for, maybe your chance to buy it cheap and keep it and have something to play with, there are people here on this site who would be interested I'm sure.

Thanks, he is practically a son to me, I'm just trying to get the most for him. He has 3 electric cars and trucks and wants to stick with those. As far as I'm concerned, the motor doesn't work. It may but I can't, in good conscious, sell it as a good motor when I don't know that it is. The only thing I know is that it has compression and fires sporadically but has not started. I have someone telling me his friend said it was worth $50 but that seemed a little low.

yeah, for a fixer upper, if you give it a little bit of time here, I'm sure people in this savage site will start talking to you about buying it.

You may not sell on the forum until you have 100 posts, maybe craigslist or e bay would be a better place to sell it......

That's not a problem, I 'm just trying to find out what's it's worth so I can get him a reasonable price.

I say asking about 125 and going down from there depending if the engine is going to be included.... I got mine as a box of parts for 120 and it did need quite a bit to get running, diffs were trashy plastic cup variety and the tranny was missing, luckily my buddy had one I got for 25 bux and already had the electronics to go in the rig......

A little time spent cleaning it up and inspecting it for issues will net you a better price

clean it up a bit. empty the nitro out of the tank and slap it on ebay. don't auction it and don't accept offers. auctions just brings out the worst in the cheap-asses and best offers bring out the low-ballers
put a start price of $250-350 on it. it looks to be in nice shape and if the motor "poped" like it wanted to start, i wouldnt budge from that $300 range. as far as just a roller. $200 would be optimal.

I sold a roller for $270 this winter. sold a RTR savageX with little use(2gal through engine) for $390.
I don't sell junk, though. when i sell a RC its been cleaned and serviced, all broken or defective parts have been replaced and its in perfect running and working order. but then i can sit on them of they don't sell and try again next winter

Being people are paying 150 or more for just a roller that no radio or receiver I think you could get 175 to 200 no problem.

Cool. Thanks for all the info. Now that I'm looking into it, I might break down and get it going.

I would keep it, if you need help, go to hobby shop aND they can help you get it going, . But I would keep it, you could be in it cheap instead of 5 or 600, for new, and you would enjoy it, we are here to help! and spend money

wise choice....
better to not just second guess and sell it dirt cheap. get the kid as much as he can for it......he owns traxxas, afterall, and will need it

lol......its FUN spending other peoples money!

That's the worst part, I'd most likely be spending my money. I would get to use it whenever I wanted though. I have a Slash 4X4 that I picked up for me with no motor, esc or remote. After taking parts for the kids cars, I now need rear axle carriers, hex nuts, reciever, front servo and wheels. My next car will not be Traxxas.

most people realize that too, my first vehicle was a traxxas,,,,, it was my last!
LOL, I like my son's Slash, that's why I got one for me. I'll be moving away from them so I can have a car whose parts can't get used when the kids break their cars.

just get that savage and get it up to snuff, and you will love it, durability wise, and what you can do with it! Bigger motors, 3 speed trannies, For bashing and abuse, its the best.

Savage really is/was hard to beat (literally and figuratively), BUT BUT BUT BUT,
right now there are issues with the parts supply chain. Hpi was sold out some time ago, and its my belief that they(present owner) have no intentions of keeping the savage line alive. If they had intentions of keeping savages in the sales papers, they would have begun making OEM parts for them again by this time.It may be a farce to keep that truck with little to no OEM replacement parts available
I have 2 savages in need of fuel tanks. without a fuel tank, they are pretty much useless as anything but paperweights or turned to electric "money pits"

Something else to maybe consider is trading it for another RC. From experience in buying and selling RC's lately people would rather just trade RC's rather than buying it straight out.

I shop Craigslist nearly every day and I'm always seeing adds for trades. Also Facebook has a pretty decent buy and sell on there site.

People like clean and well taken care of rigs, clean it up real good. It may of sat for 5 years but if you show it was well taken care of that is going to be more appealing than a dirty rig.

I have bought two used Savages a 21 for $50 and a 25 for $75 from Troy Polamalu, both had issues from sitting but a little $ to get them running one was fuel glued engine other had some suspension issues my Traxxas are down more often than they run what the Savage just keep on going tough little buggers
