OK i rekon my car is run in enough to tune so i have turned the hsn needle in possibly 2 turns and the LSN maybe 1 turn. My question is i can drive it fast and get smoke, but when i accelerate really fast it still smokes a little. but my temp guage was reading anything from 280 F to 315 F, do i have a problem as i want to lean it out more cos when i do nail it (did it once) it just stalled at speed this is why i think it needs leaning out more but I'm concerned about the temps. unless it just stalled cos its so hot ?.. Not Sure what plug is in it and I'm sure its only 16% fuel in it. Any advice plse

Edit -- All this has been done with no body shell on it ---
-- Also i tried to richen the hsn but this made it stall more from a standing start.

Savage come with cold plug, they say use 20-25 %

what's the % of oil mixed with the fuel ?

------
I'm using 20%, 18%oil and using hot plug and the temp is around 220-240

outside temp around 11c

The fuel is only 16 % I know it weak but this should be better as not hot, LHS said to use it first then maybe go up later...

just been out trying to sort it again. when i richen the lsn needle OR the HSN it will tick over for say 20 sec then just cut out done this a few times so i leaned it out (HSN) and it would keep running and i could drive it ok without it stalling, seems boggy abit but i have got a ribbed pipe on it. when i try and nail it it will rev high but after a few seconds the engine will sort of rev low and nearly stall if i ease off the throttle it will pick up again and drive ok. the temps are still rather high and I'm sure it aint got any air leaks. i think i just need to get the needles right but not sure how, i have been altering them by eighth of a turn or less.

Edit -- I don't mind running the truck Rich Just That It Wont Idle for more than 20 seconds if i richen it more than half a turn and if it did idle longer it would stall as soon as i gave it the slightest bit of throttle, i do want to drive it quick but it just wont keep running un less i set it lean.............. yours desperately ..A..

done that with the trim on controller and that will just make the clutch engage and move the truck along..

What savage do you have? Savage X RTR or Savage XSS? Sounds to me like it may be too lean. IMO get at least 20% fuel, reset all the needles back to factory settings, get a new glow plug (MC-59 I recommend), verify you idle gap is good, ensure your throttle trim on the remote is centerd, and linkages are set properly. Once this has been done, turn the HSN clockwise(lean) about 3/4 of a turn and start the high speed runs. tune the HSN first until you get the top end speed you want and have good smoke out the pipe. Adjust the lsn AFTER the hsn is set if needed. When adjusting the lsn, a 1 hour adjustment on the needle will make a huge difference on the low end, so no need to really make big turns on it. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

It is a Savage X 4.6 RTR, I will try and get the glow plug you recommend but i have 2 questions 1- would a 20% fuel run hotter than the 16% i am currently trying and 2 at the moment if i set the needles to default it is real hard to get it started i only ever had it running at default was when i first started it ...ever, seems to me it just wants to run lean. anyways watch this space ...

UPDATE
Ok I have my savage sort of running now but have a few problems and was wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers,,

When I start the truck i more or less have to rev it a lot straight away then i can drive it around ok. if i don't the truck will just stall. ( i do this by increasing the trim alot and let the truck drive away and then turn the trim down).

My LHS told me to not do what the manual says but instead have the LSN flush and put the HSN ALL the way in then out three and a half turns and take it from there.

After doing the above i can drive the truck around real quick with no problems. its just the starting thats getting me duped. I just aint sure if its a prob with the LSN or the HSN I'm leaning towards the LSN. i put it in about 1 turn but it made no difference to the stalling H>E L> P..

It seems to me that if i lean the truck out more on the hsn it will not stall but will run at 315 .C i can give u more info just let me know what, sorry if I'm a pain.

done that with the trim on controller and that will just make the clutch engage and move the truck along..

i think you may need to richen your hsn a bit and lean out your lsn by a 1/8 to quarter turn. increase your idle from idle set screw. if in the air tires will turn ever so slightly, but if tires on the ground, your truck should stay put

Haha, I was reading this thinking it was a recent thread. From reading all the above I would say he burned up lol. I would freak out if I saw 300+ on temps
